I am a huge fan of mascara and have been through my fair share of mascaras while on the hunt for the perfect mascara. I am always very excited when receiving mascaras to test out, especially ones such at the Avon Mega Effects Mascara that is so unique.
The wand of the mascara is unlike any other want on the market. It seems rather intimidating at first and I wasn’t too certain about how to use it, but is works like a charm. Holding it against the lash line and simply blinking coats each lash evenly with the product. The bristles of the brush separate lashes beautifully and the shape of the want helps to curl lashes up.
The mascara wears well throughout the day and feels light on your lashes. My lashes didn’t feel all that hard with the mascara on, which is something I personally look for in a mascara. I do not like it when mascara makes my lashes feel like twigs.
The cons: It is a little difficult to dip the wand back into the tube to get more product onto the wand. I am impressed with the amount it dispenses onto the wand but it is not enough to cover both eyes properly.
All in all, I am rather impressed with the Avon mascara. It carries very well in a makeup bag and makes applying mascara very easy. This is definitely aimed at ladies who like something different from the norm.
I have to say that this mascara really does create mega effects with your lashes. It coats every single lash and creates a dramatic effect. I actually do not wear liner with this mascara. The only thing is that it requires some practice when it comes to application. I needed a few tries for perfect, no mess application and once I mastered this application went quick

Avon Mega Effects Mascara is really great mascara and gives you lashes the full luscious look, however opening the tube to get to the applicator was a bit of a nightmare. But after reading through the instructions I managed to open it just fine. Didn’t ever think that I would need instruction to open a mascara bottle, it gave me a few moments to laugh at myself. Once I finally opened it I found that the brush can be a little messy for a first timer but after a while of practicing I managed to find the technique and applied the mascara without any more fuss. I found that if you apply more than one layer it makes your lashes even more full and think perfect for a night time look. Avon Mega Effects Mascara is really a unique product and sets itself apart from the rest. I have already recommended the product to all my friends and they too love it.
I was so confused at first as to how the mascara even opened as i wasn't used to this new design but even using it for the first time was amazing! no clumpy eyelashes, each lash perfectly coated and not to mention it was so much fuller!!!! I am a huge mascara fan constantly changing for fear the next is better but iv met my match! :) LOVE LOVE LOVE! Will definitely be purchasing it in future.
I was extremely impressed with the Avon Mega Effects Mascara. At first glance it looks like a bulky product, but that is only because of the genius of the design. The applicator wand had a good, broad base which allowed for a firm grip. What particularly impressed me, is that the mascara allowed for applying from bottom to top with the flexible wand, which gave me a good view of the lashes and thus the best way to apply the product. The positioning of the hand when applying mascara makes all the difference. I also appreciated the fact that there wasn't too much of the mascara on the brush applicator, which meant that the lashes didn't clump. The effect created was truly mega, and I also like the fact that the lashes weren't spidery or too stiff, but that they held. I would certainly recommend Avon Mega Effects Mascara.
Mascara has to be my favorite beauty and make-up product. I can do without just about any other product, so long my lashes look full and gorgeous.
Avon's new wonderbrush is innovative and so much easier to use than the normal wand. A mascara that comes with instructions?? Yup, this one is definitely a first of its kind. Although, I have to admit I was a little intimidated at first, once I got the grip, rock, pull method going, it was a awesome to use.
The bendable brush allows for a more comfortable application and there is no longer the worry of stabbing yourself in the eye again. This is a wonderful product; although the original price is a little steep, I'd definitely continue to use it.
I was really excited when I received this product. It has an innovative design which surprised me. My first thoughts was that it was gimmicky- just another marketing ploy with the same old product. I am pretty loyal to my Maybelline mascaras.
After using it, I was pleasantly surprised. the brush coated every lash effectively and evenly and you could easily build up to a rich, thick coat after a few applications. The best way to apply it is with a vibrating action. It made my lashes look dark, voluminous and thick.
I wear contacts and spectacles and I did not find it irritating to either. It doesn't easily smudge either if you have hayfever like I do.
The only drawback with this product is that i found that it takes long to dry. On several occasions I sneezed a few minutes after applying the mascara and ended up looking like a panda.
I will definately consider purchasing this product on 2 conditions: 1) They formulate it to dry more rapidly 2) They have a waterproof option
The price is excellent, and the mascara is cute - I'll give you that. When I saw it in the Avon booklet for the first time, I immediately thought it would be out-of-this-world-expensive... but it's the price of a regular mascara. I have yet to try it out, and see whether it actually works... I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to mascaras - I can deal with a slightly different angled brush, or a wand that has its bristles spread out in a different pattern than the usual mascara wands, but this little gadget is unlike anything I've ever seen. Honestly, I think I'd feel a bit self-conscious flipping it out in a public bathroom and inviting the stares of other women. Maybe I'll just use it at home... it'll be my own personal dirty little secret! hehe x
when i heard about this new mascara i ordered it the first chance i could, i mean seriously what more could you want in a mascara. i was really fascinated by this product and could not wait to try it on so i gripped it rocked it bent it and woah i found it to be a little uncomfortable applying it as the wand is really small.it really felt weird and i needed to be really close with the mirror for the product to be applied once i got the mascara on it looked great really.....clump free literally applied corner to corner and dried super fast i was very impressed with my end result but the applicator is far to small
I was so excited when I received the amazing mascara, I am usually very sensitive to Mascara but for the first time in a long time this is the only product that has been good for me. It's a Mega Wow, I like the packaging.
REVIEW FOR NEW AVON MEGA EFFECTS MASCARA I recently received the mascara to test. It a first with the new brush. A total new concept from the wand mascara we’re all use to. I have to admit it did take some getting use to. I am no make up expert; I’m just an ordinary woman & mom. The brush applies more product on the lashes in one coat than the normal wand mascara. This ensures that you require fewer coats to get the same effect as you normally do with 2 – 3 coats of your normal mascara. The mascara is also nice & dark so it give you an immediate full lash effect. The multiple brushes also ensures great separation of your lashes. Once use to the new brush its a lot less messy & quicker to apply. See my before & after photos below & judge for yourself.
I was immediately intrigued by the packaging of this product, as it was unique. I love innovative products so was excited to try it out. I must admit, I struggled to open the mascara, and had to read the instructions to figure it out! I liked the idea of reaching new angles with the flexible applicator, but it didn't seem to really make a huge difference. The product certainly made my lashes very dark and thick, and I liked the brush and handbag sized container - just not very convinced with the applicator.
Wow wow wow, i looooooooooooooove this mascara. The applicator tip is AWESOME, flexible and so suitable for any style of applying eye makeup. The mascara itself is great, takes a while to dry -try not to sneeze after immediate application- but it really is long lasting once dry and absolutely fab. The little bottle is so unique and the style is very modern and attractive. I really do love everything about this mascara and would love to make it my permanent new mascara, but will have to wait till its on special ;)

I Received my mascara in the post yesterday (thanks guys!!!)and I decided to give it a try today. My usually sensitive eyes have not given me any trouble and i've been wearing it for almost 10 hours already, so there's a serious plus for those of us who react to everything! I was slightly disappointed with the applicator, it takes some getting used to, as the usual zig-zag technique does not work here and you are more likely to make a mess if you don't have a steady hand. The mascara takes long to dry, so be careful not to blink/sneeze soon after application. Other than this its a cute looking concept, and im glad I got a chance to try it.
I was thrilled to be selected as part of this Avon review club! I simply love to try new gadgets and I couldn't wait to try this innovation out! The packaging is cute and I love the bright pink. At first glance, I was rather confused as to how to get to the wand, but fortunately Avon have provided easy to follow step-by-step instructions as to how to wiggle out the brush. Once I got the hang of removing it, it I found the wand to look more like a paintbrush. Intimidating to say the least! You can adjust the angle of the wand for easier application as it has a little hinge so it moves up and down. It has a normal mascara-type scent, so nothing off-putting. Trust me, don't try to apply this product for the first time if you are in a hurry. You need to practice a few times. The first time I tried, I got gloop all over my eyelids. The formula is very wet, so allow drying time before you start batting those eyelashes. What I liked about it: -The unique brush shape allows you to get to the base of your lashes like no other wand I have used in the past. This gives almost the same effect as "tightlining" so that you have a nice line to start with even without the application of extra eyeliner. -The formula is nice and dark and leaves lashes looking quite glossy -Once it dries, it doesn't flake or smudge and wears all day long -It is super-easy to remove with normal cleanser and cotton wool pads
What I didn't like about this product: -I have barely there lashes and I found that it didn't give me enough volume or length on its own. I have to use it with another mascara to fill in the volume and extend the lashes. Obviously if you have been gifted in the lash department, you won't have this gripe and it may just be your go-to product from now on -I cannot apply this to my lower lashes no matter how hard I try or from what angle. I still end up with a smudgy mess. -I don't really like the wetness of this formula, as I am normally in a rush and don't have time to stand around waiting for it to dry between coats.
My verdict: This is probably great if you are already a doe-eyed beauty with lashes for days. If you have sticky or barely-there lashes, you may need to use it in conjunction with another mascara, but it may be worth a try for the "tightlining" effect and the long-wearing, non-flaking, smudge-free formula.
Thumbs up to Avon for trying something new! It may not work for everybody, but it's definitely worth a try. Thanks again to Beauty Bulletin for sending me this product to try! I had so much fun experimenting with it!
when i saw the advert on BB i was facinated by the new design and the fact that it was pink. The mascara is very nicely packaged and the handle bends nicely at whichever angle you wish i did however have an issue with the curve on the brush my eye is very curved and the brush seemed to not have enough of a curve so i couldnt use it per instruction i found it easier to hold the brush upside down or just use the sides. The issue i have with all avon mascaras is the formula it has the right thickness and is not over runny to coat the lashes nicely but the problem is during the day it begins to flake and i end up with a major black eye. My image is after 3 coats and you will notice it just simply coats the lashes no lengthening( which i look for in a mascara) and not much volume.The only thing that i found positive was the fact that it did not clump. Thanks to the BB ladies for sending this to me i enjoyed playing around with it :)
When I first heard about this revolutionary new Mega Effects mascara from Avon, I was filled with a rush of excitement that only a make-up junkie could comprehend! I was thrilled to be chosen as one of the first ladies in SA to try out this brand new take on the daily make-up staple; mascara.
Open up the box and the first thing you'll notice is that it comes with instructions. Yep - for mascara...who would've thought?! Don't do what I did and ignore them - save yourself the hassle and read their "how-to" leaflet :)
It's pretty simple actually - remove the pink lid and hold the pink handle, gently wiggling the wand from side to side to get it out the tube. Got it. Step 1 down, now to apply it...
I honestly thought the application would be much easier than what it was. My first encounter with this cool, modern-looking mascara wand was tricky and a bit frustrating, though I'm sure with practice it gets easier.
What did I love about it? * First things first, the hot-pink & black packaging is stunning - great colour choice and the design is amazingly sleek and compact * You can bend the handle of the wand to get the most comfortable angle for application * The brush fits well and comfortably along the lashes and their natural shape * I'm always looking for the blackest black mascara I can find, because often your regular black mascaras end up looking a bit grey in the light - the AVON Mega Effects lives up to its promise! * It did not flake, crumble or smudge once during the day! :) * It didn't irritate my usually sensitive eyes * It doesn't clump
What I didn't enjoy about it: * It was difficult to apply and definitely requires some time and a bit of practice to master * Even though you can bend the handle to fit comfortably, it all felt quite awkward and unnatural - I guess that's just because the design is just so new and different to the regular wand I'm used to holding * The application was quite messy, despite trying to be careful I had to clean up a bit around the lashline on my top eyelid * Although it lengthened my lashes nicely, it didn't provide the volume it promised or that I really want from a mascara (even after applying 2-3 coats).
With it's eye-catching design and unique concept, along with a friendly price-tag of R99.95 (on www.avon.co.za) I definitely think this product is going to be a big hit!
Overall I say well done to AVON for making history with their creative and out-of-the-box idea and, of course, thank you to Beauty Bulletin for selecting me to test and review the product.
I was so excited when I got chosen to review this product as I am well aware that Avon has great quality products. It also just so happened that I just needed a mascara. :)My mascara arrived late (due to the postal service- egh) but also just in time because I ran out of my other mascara.
Opening the new box was quite confusing because it's not like conventional mascaras that are in long, cylindrical tubes. When I saw the black and pink packaging, I was certainly more intrigued by it.
I must admit that opening it was quite an experience for me as I was afraid I'd break it. It unfortunately was quite a struggle to pull the applicator our of the tube and some of the mascara splashed on my shirt and the mirror :( When I applied it to the top of my eyelashes, it coated each eyelash evenly and when I brushed them from the bottom, it gave another thicker, even coat. My eyelashes now look thicker, longer and more full. It definitely made a difference to the lashes on my lower lid as it shows them much longer and thicker. I was partially aware that those existed. LOL until now :)
On the whole, this mascara is of very good quality and I’m pleased with the result of eyelash coating and coverage I get. However, I’m not completely sold on the new applicator. “If it aint broke, don’t fix it.”? Or perhaps we just need to get used to something new and different?
This brush is truly fantastic.. coating each and every lash equally with mascara. I did not find the actual mascara formulation itself to be the most fantastic I have ever tried, I do however think that their (Avon's) new take on the applicator brush is rather ingenious and firmly believe it is set to become the next "wunderkind" of our century..
That said I did not find that the formulation did much to dramatically increase the volume as promised, instead it coated them well and evenly (all due to the fabulous brush)and did perhaps give them a lengthened look. The "wetness" of the formulation was a very nice surprise as I don't generally like a mascara that is too dry and find that the average "sensitive eye" mascara tends to be rather on the dry side.
I will not deny in the beginning it was a rather difficult concept to grasp ( the new way of applying mascara) but after watching an application video on BB it all seemed like a breeze and after a few attempts I reckon I may have it down to a fine art..
In conclusion: LOVE LOVE LOVE the wonderbrush... but... Not so mad about the mascara formulation itself..
With this innovitive new packaging I've never been more exctied to use a product! I thought about it all day and couldn't wake up early enough to give it a bash!
It ceratinly delivered with being super fun to use - however I love major volume and this doesn't deliver in that sense.
If you naturally have thick bold lashes I would definitely reccomend this as what you would be looking for is length and this truely gives great legnth!
I found that because I was looking for volume - it was quite messy as I was trying to layer it and with the new style of applicator you can really get right up into the base of your lashes like never before. So I did end up doing a lot of work trying to clean up my smudges (I would reccomend you do a bold smokey eye with this).
This nifty little mascara tube is the first of it's kind and will pave the way for many other mascaras to come. Admittingly, It does take a while to master. In the beginning, you will have splotches everywhere besides on your eyelashes, or maybe that's just me. After about four tries, I finally mastered it!
The clever brush packed with bristles of all sizes, ensures that you coat each lash perfectly and evenly for a wide awake look that lasts through the entire day.
The only thing I never liked about the product was that it was hard to open and that it would be much better if it were a waterproof formula. Other than that, this is a win!
When I opened my package to reveal the little tube of mascara I was beyond excited. The whole idea of the mascara was amazing and sounded super simple to apply.
However I was very disappointed. Not only did the formula not do much for my eyelashes (they were neither defined, nor full of volume, even after 2 coats), but I found the wand messy to use. I'm not sure if this is because it was a different shape and so you apply it differently, and I was just therefore just not used to it. But even after a month of using it I don't seem to have gotten any better at it! I tend to smear a bit of mascara on my eyelid nearly every time I use it and I just don't find it to be as effective as other mascaras.
So, I was pretty excited when I received this product in the post as I am a bit of a mascara junkie. On the first try I did poke myself in the eye with the applicator. Once you get the hang of it though, it's pretty nifty. I really love the volume and definition I get with this mascara. The only drawback is the price. There are a lot of other products that will give you the same results for less money. All-in-all this is a great product.
When I received this product, I was absolutely in love with the design. Avon took Mascara to another level.
My first application was messy, not sure how to manoeuvre the wand. The product colour(Blackest Black) really impressed me. The amount of product distributed evenly which is a winner.
I would recommend this product for day use, as one cost is enough! I think it's perfect to travel with and touch ups when needed.
I believe one should invest in a quality mascara, and I believe I can this one to the list!!

When I first opened the mascara I was taken a back by the very different design. It took me a few seconds to work out how to open it but once I did the effect was awesome! The mascara itself is great - no clumps and a great volumising effect, it does however take some time to get used to the applicator. I find the most difficult part is not getting it onto your brow bone.
All in all I would recommend it but more a a special occasion mascara than an every day item.
Super excited to receive this product to review! Unfortunately just not too impressed with it.
First of all it was a bit tricky to figure out how to open it. And mine just didn't slide open "smoothly", I have to wiggle it out to get the brush out.
I have rather long lashes and for me personally, it did not coat each lash but was making my lashes lumping together and smudging taking a while to dry :-(
Personally I prefer the old fashioned extended round brush which you have more control over smoothing through your lashes.
I usually love trying new products, but I regret buying this one. I don't like the brush and its very difficult for me to apply the mascara. Not very impressed with this product.
As an enthusiastic first time user of an AVON mascara product I was sceptical when I saw this small product, but none the less it is a nifty product to have. Despite the information sheet/user guide which comes with the product, I like many others who are lazy to peruse the user guide, still found this product easy to use. The application of the mascara went on quite smoothly. I was expecting a MEGA WOW with the first application, but after the second coating the mascara done its trick.

If you are looking at this review hoping to see how awesome this mascara is, then you're in the wrong place. I think it's average and I was not blown away by it at all.
I was so over the moon to be chosen to review this. It comes in black and brown. I received the black one to review (thankfully).
My first experience using this mascara was this morning. I opened it up easily enough, the instructions are pretty self-explanatory: you grip, squeeze, wiggle and pull it out. It looks quite messy when it comes out, and those looks are not deceiving. It is a bit messy.
A definitely pro about this product is you need only one sweep and it covers your entire lash at once. Sometimes you need to use the edges for the corners, but one sweep is definitely enough. The mascara goes on thick, so there is definitely notice-ability. I would not wear this every day, I will be keeping it for night time use.
The first application went on smoothly and looked pretty cool. The second eye came out a bit clumpy (I did it exactly the same way) and I actually had to use my other mascara brush to sweep out the clumps. If it wasn't for the second eye clumping, this review would have been very different.
It is a very wet mascara, but when it is dry, it's dry and doesn't budge. It's the end of the work day now and it's still in place perfectly with no smudging, so for that it gets a thumbs up.
I am definitely going to be using it for evenings out. I am still undecided about whether I would purchase this product once it runs out. I will update my review in the comments section if I change my mind on anything. But for now, it's not that much better than regular mascara. My Maybelline Volum' Express One-by-One mascara is still my favourite.
As you may know, one of the 5 things a girl should have in her handbag is of course, mascara! Avon Mega Effects Mascara is a great product to keep in your handbag, due to its compact size and unconventional shape. Unlike other mascaras, the lid closes tightly and will not open and make a mess.
I am still searching for the best mascara on the market, I will post a review when I find it. I am enjoying using the Avon Mega Effects Mascara and hope that you will try it out too.
I was very excited to try the Avon Mega Effects Mascara, but was very disappointed. First I struggled opening it. Secondly, I don't know if it is because I'm left handed, but it is not easy to apply at all - I got more mascara on my eye lids and cheeks than on my lashes. Once applied, it does look nice though.
This mascara definitely appears daunting when you first open it. After all the years of a straight wand, being faced with what is essentially a mini-paintbrush is quite scary. Fears aside, I attempted to apply this mascara, and was quite surprised at just how easy the brush design made application! This is going to be a love/hate type of mascara for most people. To be honest, I would have loved to give this mascara 5/5 based on design alone, however the brush design is the only really good thing about this mascara at all.
While the Avon team obviously spent loads of time designing the applicator and packaging, it seems like they totally forgot about the mascara itself. And this is possibly the worst mascara I have ever used. Having used the same mascara I regularly use for 5+ years, I thought maybe I was judging this mascara too harshly after the first application, and used it for about a week to test it out completely. Still not impressed - at all!
The main problems I had with this mascara were: -It takes FOREVER to dry, and I say FOREVER in caps because after applying the mascara, getting dressed, and tying my hair up it was still wet and proceeded to transfer all over my lids -I have long, straight lashes, and need a mascara which provides some sort of shape or stiffness to the lashes, which this did not do at all - As the day progressed, I could actually see how the very little 'lift' provided by the mascara began sagging - The mascara made my lashes look very sparse and thin, which is really strange considering they are relatively thick to begin with
While I think the concept behind the application of the mascara is absolutely brilliant (hint, hint Maybelline), this does not outweigh the fact that the mascara itself is terrible. And while I realise that everyone looks for different things in a mascara, I think a R40 no-name mascara is much better quality then this. In fact, I am so disappointed that I am going to end up giving this mascara away to someone simply because it does nothing for my lashes.
I was excited to use this 'breakthrough' new product, but I must admit, I found this mascara difficult to use. I think this is because I'm used to using a mascara wand and not this new 'paintbrush' type of device. As a result I made quite a mess. In trying to apply the mascara to my eyelashes, I landed up getting black smudges on my cheeks and eyelids. Ain't nobody got time fo' that! I tried to angle it differently, but eventually gave up. Back to my trusty wand mascara.
I was so excited to receive this sample. I really thought it was going to lay to rest my mascara troubles... but alas. I initially struggled just to get it open. I don't think that the instructions leaflet is very clear. Once I got it open, I managed to get most of the mascara on my eye lid and less on my actual lashes. This happened the first few attempts at using the product. I did however like the size and compactness of the product, but I found it awkward to use and difficult to manipulate. I have not given up just yet, I will try again. The design makes sense and I cant see how I can't get this to work so hopefully this review will go from poor to good...
I was surprised when I saw the avon mega effects mascara wand at first. I couldn’t quite figure out what goes where but once I figured it out i was completely overtaken by the genius of the design. We often hear one size fits all but that's really just not the case and I think Avon has tried to make this statement true with this mascara. This wand is actually adjustable and sits comfortably in the nook of your hand making it easy to apply but unfortunately not that easy to control. Due to the flexibility of the wand itself and its small size to accompany it, it’s a mission to actually apply it without having smudge lines all over your eyes.
I must say, the bristles are spaced great to avoid clumping (well done avon) BUT the mascara takes forever to dry which results in once having a grunge look unintentionally.
One thing that it is great for is super straight lashes. I gave the wand to my mom to try out and it is the only mascara she’s used that managed to curl those straight as a board eye lashes. However, it did nothing wonderful for my own lashes.
What a nightmare to get the brush out.u got to rock it back n forth n wiggle it out.with all the promising reviews thought i would give this a try. The whole application technique is so fussy n for me totally not worth it. I almost poked myself in the eye applying this n its far too time consuming to bother with. Not impressed
I was not a big fan of this mascara. When i got the mascara, it was quite a mission to get it open. Did not like the fancy packaging and the mascara itself was a bit of a dissapointment. It takes forever to dry. I dont have nice long lashes, nor full. It just did not do anything for me. It did not give me lenght and was not smudge proof. Was great trying it out though :)
This little mascara looked ideal and compact but I found it to be too small to apply and also the brush was much to thick in size to get a defined look. It wasnt a product I used comfortably and I do much prefer the traditional thin mascara wand that conventional mascaras use.
The actual product lasted well but sadly the dynamics of actual application put me off.
I found that the brush was far too big as i have very small tight eyes it made applying very difficult and messy! The shape of the brush was awkward to use, i deffinately wouldn't recommend it to anyone although the mascara itself was long lasting and great! A different bottle and brush is needed
