Although super affordable, this product left me disappointed. The eyeliner isn't very dark and needs to be built-up causing you to use a lot of product. I also find that it smudges easily and doesn't last long before wiping off or having the colour fade.

I normally love Essence products, but this one let me down. The ink dried up too quickly, and the tip of the pen didn't last too well and became all tatty.

I found that the ink took a while to dry and if I was not careful, it smudged into the crease of my eye (not a good look!)

Pros:
- good price

Cons:
- ink dries up quickly
- smudges
- tip gets tatty

An Amazing product! the pen like eyeliner is easy so easy to use compared to other eyeliners.
Makes doing the sexy cat/winged eye so very simple, no mess no fuss.
However it did seem a bit light once applied & i did have to re apply a few times to get the desired colour.
but other than that it's completely affordable not like the other products for which u pay more than R50! (thank you essence!!) :)

This eyeliner pen by Essence is similar to a liquid liner in a pen form, as described by its name. On the packaging it says that this eyeliner pen provides a precise application, is colour intensive and extra longlasting, as well as being smudge proof.

As I’ve used Essence products before and liked it, I was quite excited to try this out, especially since it was sold at an affordable price of R39.99. As for the shape of the felt tip, it was quite easy to apply a precise line. However, the pigmentation of the liner does fade especially fast when you have eyeshadow on. It’s almost as if the shadow “soaks” up the liner and you end up with a very faint line. So I did not find it particularly long lasting at all.

I also found that after using the product for a period of time and the tip starts drying out, you need to shake the pen in order for the product to reach the tip again. This isn’t very convenient especially when you have to keep putting the lid back on, shaking it and continue applying your liner. If you don’t put the lid on and shake the pen, the liquid will end up everywhere around you (yes ladies, I did this and I don’t recommend it unless you want to look like a spotted leopard). So the product does not flow nicely into the felt tip after using the product for a period of time.

The advantage of this product is that this product can be easily removed with gentle eye makeup remover as it is not waterproof, which saves a lot of time and effort. It is also great for eye looks that require a bit of definition around the eyes but not a hard, precise line.

I've purchased this product last year for R34.99 at Clicks. In the beginning it was nice, applied smoothly but it was not opaque with just one layer. After a few months it started drying out and the liquid liner wasn't flowing as smoothly as before. Also the tip started to fray slightly. For the price I wouldn't say it was a complete waste but I had hope for it to last longer than 3 months. I did a bit of internet research and found a tip to make them last longer: You should store them upside down so that the liquid liner flows towards the felt tip of the liner pen. If your pen is starting to dry out a few sharp shakes should revive it for another application. I'm not going to repurchase this product but I will try other Essence liquid eyeliners.
