What is the difference between Ceramic, Tourmaline and Titanium Heating Tools?

Heating tools play a major role in styling hair. A super straight look from a flat iron or a big-volume look from a hair dryer can instantly give you the hairstyle you desire.

However, heating tools have developed a bad reputation because of their potentially harmful effects on your hair, especially if used frequently over a long period of time. They can damage and weaken your hair. Fortunately, we now live in a time in which makers of styling tools use first class technology to give you high quality tools that are good for your hair, or at least not as bad as they used to be.

There are three types of good quality heating tools used these days for hair. These are Ceramic Plated, Tourmaline Plated and Titanium plated tools. Let us take a look at each of them and find out how and why they are supposed to be good for your hair.

Ceramic Tools
Ceramic flat irons and blow dryers use ceramic heat when switched on. Ceramic heat produces negative ions when hot and so, produces a negative electrical charge. The reason why this is a good thing is that, damaged hair produces positive ions when exposed to chemicals, metal heating tools and static electricity. Positively charged hair has open follicles and is dry and brittle and so, has a frizzy look. By applying negative ions to it, such as through ceramic heating tools, you will neutralise the charge, close the hair follicles and smooth the hair shaft.

Tourmaline Tools
Heating tools with tourmaline also produce a negative charge that helps to neutralise positively charged hair. In this way, it works similarly to ceramic heat. The major difference between ceramic and tourmaline it that tourmaline produces a greater number of negative ions. This leads to a silkier and shinier look when used on your hair.

Titanium Tools
Titanium provides the smoothest surface available to hairstyling irons. It also distributes heat evenly and remains hot for longer.
You can thus, flat iron your hair quickly and have super sleek and frizz free hair with reduced damage.

Even better are tools made using a combination of the above materials. These tools provide even better performance. This is always a plus because, who doesn’t not want the best of everything?
It is clear from the above that good quality heating tools do more than give you sleek, shiny and smooth hair. They also help your hair maintain a neutral electrical charge and so, be stronger and healthier.
