Squashing those skincare myths

There are so many myths and facts about skincare but what to believe? Let’s set you straight with a few of them:

Myth: You don’t need sunscreen when the weather is overcast
Fact: UV radiation still reaches us when it’s cloudy. Always make sure you use a good sunscreen no matter what the weather is doing, to ensure you get the best protection from the harmful effects of the sun.

Myth: You don’t need to wear a separate sunscreen if your foundation has an SPF
Fact: According to the experts you would have to literally plaster layers of foundation on your face in order to get the protection advertised on the packaging, so wear a sunscreen in addition to your make-up to be properly protected.

Myth: The richer your eye-cream, the greater the benefits
Fact: If an eye-cream is too rich, it will just sit on your skin and may get into your eye as you sleep. This could result in puffiness the next morning, which, in turn, actually stretches out your skin in the long turn and reduces elasticity causing wrinkles. Always pick the eye-cream that is right for your skin. A great eye-cream will be absorbed easily and should leave your skin looking smooth and supple with no residue or puffy eyes.

Myth: Anti-aging creams can eradicate wrinkles
Fact: Only creams containing retinol can actually work to erase wrinkles. Other creams just hydrate the area, which plumps up the skin and temporarily improves the look of the wrinkles, but doesn’t remove them.

Myth: Expensive skincare is always more effective than cheaper mass-produced products
Fact: Many mass-produced creams work just as well, if not better than their expensive counterparts. They often contain similar ingredients, but you are paying extra for luxurious packaging and branding. This isn’t always the case, but it is worth doing your homework, before splurging on expensive skincare.

Myth: You need to wash your face twice a day with a good cleanser
Fact: A splash with water in the morning is sufficient. Use your cleanser at night to get rid of make-up and other impurities.

Myth: Exfoliating your skin always gives you a glow
Fact: Exfoliation has its place, but never over-exfoliate as you will actually stimulate oil production in the process.

I hope you have enjoyed these myths and facts. Please share if you have any thoughts on these ideas.
