Make It Last!

We’ve all been there. You’ve spent a while perfecting your pout, gazed admiringly at yourself in the mirror and headed out for the day, only to find your lipstick has faded after an hour or two!

Luckily we’ve got the secrets to making your lippie last longer.

Preparation is Key:
Removing any dry or dead skin from your lips is a surefire way to make your lipstick last longer. It also ensures a smoother application of colour. Use a specialised lip scrub, like the Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub, or a damp face cloth to gently remove any dry skin. It’s also important to lock in moisture by applying a lip balm straight after exfoliating and then blotting it off after 10 minutes or so.

Walk The Line:
Lipliner is key to making your lipstick last, this is because lipstick adheres to their waxy consistency. Before applying your lipstick, colour in your lips with an exact or similar shade of lip liner, this also prevents that awful outline that appears around your lips when your lipstick has faded. Once you’ve applied your lipstick then go over your lips with your liner again to ensure colour is locked in.

It’s All in the Wrist:
Whichever way you apply your lipstick is up to you. Some experts insist that using a brush gives you the long lasting effect, while others say it doesn’t matter. Either way always opt for a long lasting formula, like these, and apply a few coats.

Powder Your Lips:
Here’s something we didn’t know; many lip glosses can actually cause your lipstick to fade faster. Opt for a long lasting matte look instead and lightly brush some translucent powder onto your lips after application. The best way to do this is to lightly press a one ply tissue to your lips and dust the powder over the tissue.

Go Dotty for Blotting:
Blotting your lips with a tissue or blotting paper in between coats means your lipstick will stay put. Instead of pressing the tissue onto your lips, kiss it gently, this will ensure your lips look even and won’t wipe away any colour.

Be Bold:
It’s a fact; bright, bold shades of lipstick last longer because they have more pigment in them. So go forth and be bold this Summer!
