The Jewel of India – Skin Care Masks

Ever thought about putting turmeric on your face as a skin care product? Probably not! I discovered this gem of information and have been using this mask for a little while now and boy am I happy! Turmeric masks are traditionally used for brides in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan to give them smooth, clear and glowing complexions.

Turmeric aka borrie aka haldee is believed to help prevent wrinkles, dark circles under your eyes, scarring, pigmentation, blotchiness, acne and eczema. Turmeric has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties which is probably why it’s so good for acne sufferers. The main ingredient is curcumin and this is an antioxidant which has powerful cancer fighting properties.

So how do you make this little gem?

You’re going to need:

1. 2 TBSP Besan/Gram/Channa/Garbanzo Bean flour. You can find this at any spice store.
2. ½ tsp turmeric/borrie.
3. 1 tsp Honey (which has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties amongst a host of others)
4. A little bit of milk (which acts as a skin softening agent and mild exfoliant).
5. A clean bowl.

Tumeric Masks Honey

Mix the gram flour, turmeric and honey together in the bowl. The honey makes the dry ingredients kind of clump together. Now add a little bit of milk to form a paste. If it’s too dry, you can add more milk. The consistency is meant to be like pudding. So it is not too runny and not too thick. You’re Goldilocks now, testing the porridge. Once you’ve mixed up your mask (which is a crazy, bright yellow), apply it to clean skin. Please don’t get this stuff in your eyes, its burns. Leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes until it’s dry. You will feel that it’s harder to make your face. It’s kind of like using Botox, but not quite. Wash it off with warm water. I find the best time to do this is before a shower at night.I avoid doing this mask during the day as the turmeric can cause your skin to darken in sunlight. So please ladies, the night before.

Once you’ve washed it off you should immediately see a difference in your complexion. Your skin will have a look of luminance and beauty. If you cannot see it, you will DEFINATELY feel it. Your skin is soft and luxurious to the touch. For best results, use this twice a week. Don’t worry about your face staining. As it’s not a concentrate of turmeric, you should be fine. The gram flour really helps exfoliate your skin. I’ve never experienced such soft skin before!

Excited to try this out? Sceptical? Have you used this mask before? Share your thoughts on this skin care tip!
