The secret to applying eye-cream

The skin around your eye is really thin and sensitive, so eye-cream needs to be applied in the correct manner to reap the benefits and not damage the delicate skin further.

As we age, the need for a fabulous eye-cream becomes more and more apparent, but it is very important to use it in the right way to decrease fine lines and wrinkles, diminish age spots and relieve puffiness. Just slapping it on in the hopes that our eyes will look smooth and wrinkle and puff-free may actually do more harm than good!

FIRST STEP:
Wash your face properly before applying the eye-cream – dirt or yucky old make-up grease will hamper absorption and interfere with the success of your product.

SECOND STEP:
Use a small pea-sized blob on your ring finger to dab onto your skin. Your ring-finger is the best to use for this purpose, as it uses the lightest pressure, so will not bruise or damage the skin. Find your orbital bone directly under your tearduct on the inner corner of your eye and dab the product in an arc under your eye along the bone to the outermost corner of your eye and then above your eye along the brow bone.  Don’t apply the product too close to your lash line, as eye-cream travels over time and if you apply it before bed-time you may wake up with puffball eyes in the morning. The heat of your skin will actually make sure your eye-cream reaches your problem areas, if you apply it as I have recommended. When you are dabbing your product also make sure you include any fine lines extending from the corners of your eyes.

THIRD STEP:
Gently tap the cream in with your ring finger to allow absorption,  moving from the inner most blob of cream to the outermost blob. This works like lymphatic drainage for your sinuses, so moving outwards also helps to decrease puffiness. Conversely, if you go outwards to inwards, you could actually make your eyes look more puffy! Epic fail!
Make sure you use the correct eye-cream to suit your purposes. We love Lancome’s  Absolue Yeaux Premium which is great for smoothing out creases and brightening the eye area  and L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Renew Advanced Anti-Ageing Eye Cream which is great for tightening saggy skin. Also look out for dermalogica’s total eye care SPF 15 which will sort out puffiness and dark circles chop chop.
