How to apply ethnic makeup?

When it comes to the rules of Ethnic makeup, there are several important factors to take into consideration. We use different highlighting and contouring techniques and “warm” makeup colours for ethnic skin.

Here we give you a step-by-step guide on how to do makeup for ethnic skin.

1) Make sure the face is clean from all makeup residues

2) Spray MAC fix+ onto the face and buff it into the skin.

3) Start foundation application. Go easy on the foundation around the areas where you should be bringing forward the highlights of the face (ie the   cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and chin area)

4) Use MAC Studio Fix Foundation to even out the skin tone further. Buff it lightly into the skin (MAC Studio Fix NW50 or NC50 are usually the safest bets for ethnic skin)

5) Do not contour the face. The aim for ethnic makeup rather, is to bring out the highlights on the face. (cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and chin area)

6) You can use a lighter concealer to enhance the highlights on the face further.

7) Apply Blush to the apples of the cheeks. Use a blush that has deeper reds in it as this suits ethnic skin tone. The blush range from Black Up Blush Colour Splash has highly pigmented colours that stand out on ethnic skin.

8) Lightly rub off excess oil. Blotting paper is great for this! We recommend the Bobbi Brown Blotting Papers.

9) Use “warm” colour eyeshadows such as bronze, gold, copper and brown for example. Frosty, cool colours do not work well for ethnic skin.

10) Apply eyeliner to the top inside of the eye
