THE UPSIDE: I was thrilled to receive a tube of this iconic product as a gift and have been slathering it on daily for the past two and half months - from the second month or so of my pregnancy. Just one pump-full of the lotion from the cleverly designed dispenser is enough to bring immediate relief to achey, heavy and sensitive-to-the-touch breasts - symptoms that First and Third Trimester mamas-to-be will be all too familiar with. The light yet nourishing cream absorbs quickly, and the gentle cooling and refreshing sensation gets to work fast, and provides a lasting soothing effect all day long. As well as soothing the sensitive bust area, the fact that Mama Mio products contain no nasties also soothes the conscience of chemical-wary girls. R680 sounds like a lot of money to spend on a bust cream, but - like wearing the best quality lingerie you can afford - a little goes a long way, and it's definitely worth the investment.
THE DOWNSIDE: This product is all about alleviating sore boobs. Although it is hydrating and contains Omega oils, it lacks the deep hydration you need to prevent stretch marks and soothe nipples, so you'll need to pop another product on top of this one to do that job (I love preggie-friendly extra virgin coconut oil or Oh-Lief Olive Oil Tummy Wax). I'd also look forward to using it more if the herbal, slightly medicinal fragrance was a little more feminine and uplifting (preggies love citrus and rose scents, for example).
THE VERDICT: The perfect spoil for new and expectant mamas, I'll continue using this throughout my pregnancy and beyond.
