Velvet Contour Stick: Hi-Lite - GCS581 Luminous

I would say I was most excited to try this product out because I'm all about a good highlighter, I love how a good highlighter can enhance the angles of your face giving you a glowing dewy look.

The Velvet Contour stick range consists of 3 Highlighter shades, 3 Bronzer shades and 10 stunning blush shades. A new product to L.A. Girl line is said to have a more luxurious formula hence the name Velvet, which is free of paraben and is loaded with jojoba and grape seed oils and cocoa and Shea butters ,making them hydrating and moisturizing.

So for a first time user my feelings are half and half, it didn't glide on as fast as I initially thought but it did give my skin a great highlight you just have to apply more of the product to your face.

I applied basically three applications which is just three swipes of the product to my cheeks, I love the convenience of a twisting pen it allows you to apply as little or as much as you want. So I do give this a thumbs in my books, a reasonable price of R99

Not worth the hype

LA Girl has been delivering some excellent drugstore products lately that have quickly become cult favourites. If you haven't tried the brand's HD Pro Conceal Concealer yet, you should. As for their Velvet Contour Stick range, I suggest you give this one a miss.

Given the hype surrounding this range and other products from the LA Girl brand, I quickly headed out to Dischem to give it a look. The range consists of 10 blush sticks, 3 bronze sticks and 3 highlight sticks, all with a supposedly cream-based formula. While their is a variety of shades in the blush sticks, the same cannot be said for the bronze and highlight sticks whose shades are very similar, and unfortunately mostly suited to those with fair to medium skin tones.

I have been searching for a good drugstore highlight (something it seems impossible to find!) so I decided to try the Hi-lite Stick in the shade radiance. Out of the 3 Hi-lite sticks, this one has a shimmer that should be great for highlighting the cheek bones, nose and brow bones. The packaging, while conveniently small and easy to operate (it has a twist mechanism), is not particularly special or attractive.

Cream-based products must be easy to blend, and the formula of this product is everything but. It is hard, completely sheer and unpigmented, and, as it leaves a streak of product on the skin, almost completely impossible to blend. If you do manage to blend away the streak, all that is left is a slight sheen of glitter with none of the golden glow you come to expect from a good highlighter.

At R99,99, the Velvet Contour Stick range is on the pricer end of the spectrum of LA Girl products. Given the less-than-desirable quality of the product, and the tiny amount you get (about 1,5 cm -- 1,8 cm fully wound up, new) it is also certainly not worth the money. So continues my journey for the perfect drugstore highlighter.

LA Girl Highlighter

I was in search of a good highlighter and none of the stores I visited could help me. Eventually I ended up at Dischem and picked up this one from LA girl. I love all their products so I hope that this highlighter would not let me down.
Firstly, I feel the product is a bit over priced and the contents are not a lot either. So on that part I was a bit disappointed.
Secondly, the colours are way too light. I chose a beige but, you can hardly see it on my face. I guess they did not have any other shades available.
Thirdly, the bottle is hardly recognisable; all the wording is soo light, I just took a chance to pick it up and hoped that it would deliver.

Been using the highlighter for almost two weeks now and not really impressed but, it's ok for now, 'least till it finishes and I buy another one.

I have done a video review on this product and hope to upload by Wednesday.

Thank you

Zharina
