In the prime of your life – are primers good for mature skin?

There are so many new innovations out there on the skin care and make-up front which is really exciting, but can also be a little bit daunting. A product which has been around for a while already but which I have only just started using is the face primer.

Just what is a face primer? A face primer basically smooths away and disguises any flaws or blemishes on your skin and also helps your base and concealer stay put!

What I love about a face primer is that it helps to smooth over any fine lines or wrinkles and it effectively disguises enlarged pores. Foundation and concealer can settle into fine lines and creases on more mature skin and a good face primer can help to counteract this problem. In addition to this some primers actually come in different tints to help counteract other skin problems like redness or dark marks.

Always apply your primer after your day cream. I like to let my day cream rest a little before adding my primer if I am not in too much of a hurry. You can use a make-up sponge or foundation brush to apply your face primer, but, honestly, I find my fingertips the easiest. A little bit goes a long way and avoid rubbing it in too much as this will make it settle into the skin instead of creating that smooth finish. Let it rest a little before applying your foundation.

There are some great primers on the market at the moment. I love Revlon’s PhotoReady Perfecting Primer. Mac Prep + Prime is also a fabulous one . I am also really keen to try one of Smashbox’s Photofinish Foundation Primers.

Do you use a face primer? If so, which one?
