Ok... so (touchwood) my GHD is going in for her 11th year... No problems, no scratches, nothing. If you care for your hair as well as your GHD and use the recommended products for both the GHD and your hair - it will last you very long. When I bought mine, it was R1200 at the time with all the extras but I will never turn back.
Watch out for fakes because they are ALL over! Rather buy from a salon and register your GHD on the GHD website.
I got this as a suprise present from Hubby a couple years ago and it is honestly my most priced styling tool! The presentation of the set is impeccable and so chic! The straightener as with all GHD's is the best no words to describe it! Perfect for straightening, making curls. It does not overheat and is easy to handle with the swivel cord unlike cheaper models I had previously used. The initial straightener I received started and suddenly stopped working on the first try it was returned and replaced by the Salon with no problems I have not had a single problem with the replacement. The compact Hair dryer is perfect for traveling as it is small and folds in half. The heat resistant pad is perfect when on the go you can put your straightener down when you are done and not have to worry about anything burning and the bag is perfect to protect the straightener while travelling!Decandenc
I love the GHD sets that come out. They offer great value for money and you get awesome ghd accessories which is of the best quality. The heat resistant bag is the best compliment to your straightener. I remove the heat resistant section and use it for daily use, this ensures that i don't burn any of my furniture. I simply love the travel bag as it protects my straightener when I am traveling- I never go anywhere without my ghd!
I bought my Midnight deluxe set about 2 months ago & was so excited to have my very first ghd! the set is awesome includes the clips travel dryer, & a ghd styler with a heat resistant travel bag as well as the coolest treasure chest case ever... enough to make anyone jealous! I was alil bummed when my styler started giving me problems with the switch & was not heating up as it should but GHD gave me awesome customer service & replaced my styler with a new one within a week picking it up from me & delivering the new styler to me... virtually no effort. The travel dryer & my styler will be put to good use in my upcoming trip to the USA! :)
Okay! I have had my GHD set for a few years now and i cannot imagine my life without it. I have really boring dull hair and with the help of GHD and their products i get to enjoy my smaller moment, and i alone know how and why. I NEVER leave the house without my hair looking good. I can have on scrappy clothes, but with good healthy looking hair i can accomplish just about anything. I am a mother of 2 and a full time working wife, so i have very little time for myself; so with that little time i get my hair fixed at-least once a week or else i just look and feel lame,oily and boring.

I won the Midnight collection set in a Beauty Bulletin Competition and was the best thing I could ever ask for to happen to me!2 weeks before recieving my prize, my most prized possession at the time (my old ghd) had given up on me after 7 years of loyalty and beautiful hair.lol.
So having experience of both the new gold series GHD and the normal IV series, I picked up on the following differences:
The new gold series glided through my hair smoother and did not really snag like the old series did. Every slide was smooth and did not leave those "line" marks behind from snagging. The outter surface where the plates are was a lot cooler to touch and therefore did not burn my hands especially when making curls. The on/off button looks much nicer than the normal switch, looks so elegant and the touches of gold just makes it look fit for a princess.
The travel hairdryer it came with is not that powerful, but very convenient to carry around and is effective enough to dry your hair before styling with the GHD iron.
It came along in a very pretty jewelled treasure chest to put all my GHD goodies into and a heat resistant bag for the ghd itself and a pretty antique mirror.
