This amazing species of fish is used in spas or spa resorts as a cosmetic beautifying treatment and as a cure for a variety of skin disorders including psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema. The Garra rufa love to nibble on dead and diseased skin. As soon as the patients insert their limbs in the water, an army of these little guys start eating away the skin that’s been softened by the warm water. It’s also been found that these tiny fishes secrete diathanol which is said to aid skin regeneration Garra Rufa's are like combfishes in that they only consume the affected and dead areas of the skin through natural exfoliation, leaving the healthy skin to grow. There is no pain or biting, the Garra Rufa's use a sucking action to remove dead skin.

We got this great deal on Groupon as a gift for my mom and dad, unfortunately, my mom refused to go, so I went in her place. We had the treatment done at Le Fish Spa in Blouberg, very far from where I stay, but O so worth the trip! These weird looking fish worked wonders on my feet :) I placed my feet in a tank filled with look warm water and as soon as my feet entered the water, these little finished literally attacked, and the only way I can describe the feeling is extremely ticklish! It takes some time getting use to it but once you do it feels very pleasant! After about 20minutes in the tank, I removed my feet and proceeded with the pedi. My feet where so soft and smooth with no dry skin in sight. I could only concluded that going for a session of Dr Fish Nibbles is just as effective, if not more, than an exfoliation scrub as they eat all the dead skin cells from your feet. Its really an experience that I would highly recommend. If you are squeamish and do not like the idea, then maybe not such a good idea lol

Well, strange at first , more so on the hands than the feet because the hands are more sensitive but very relaxing afterwards.
