‘Funk it Up’ summer 2010 – Hairstyle

‘Funk it Up’ summer 2010
This summer don’t fade into the background ‘FUNK it Up’ – do something creative and interesting with your hairstyle! For those long, lazy, sticky, sea salted days on the beach that somehow blend into cocktails at sunset and dancing till sunrise…make sure you always have an awesome hair day!

A few styles/tips that work well with wet salty hair for when you just don’t have time to do all the glamorous do’s:
1.) The Plait
2.) The Twirl
3.) The Twist

The Plait
Here you can opt for the side plait or pigtail plaits or plaits that follow the hairline… My suggestion and what’s really ‘hot’ at the moment in Celebville and on the catwalk is the side plait.
The trick here is to make sure that the plait is not too perfect (and that if wet whilst it is drying you loosen it out and almost tease it a bit).

General summer hair tip: I would suggest carrying around a leave in conditioner or treatment and applying this to your hair after swimming or being in the sun for a few hours. It makes the hair manageable and protects it from further damage and looking dry and ratty…
1.)   Pull your hair to the side (after applying conditioner) or as is.
2.)   Crisscross hair into plait loosely not too tight, sometimes it’s nice to do this even if your hair is knotted (depending how badly)…
3.)    Tie hair band around the ends …leave about 5cm at the end of the plait depending on hair length as this allows room to work when you are teasing the hair and loosening the plait to give texture and volume.
4.)   To add the texture and volume you need to pull on the two horizontal sides of the plait almost pulling it out. I like to rub the hair together between my two fingers to mattifey and slightly tease it. There after move to the next level (where the hair crisscrosses again) you will see as you texture the plait the hair band will slide further and further down the plait, so make sure you have given yourself enough “space” to work!
5.)   This look is great for red carpet events, for playing volley ball on the beach or rocking that trendy spot with a twinkle in your eye!

The Twirl
(Now this is a look I always thought only girls with gorgeous curly hair would be able to pull off! However after trying it when out the other afternoon with the girls – I soon realized that even someone with dead, lifeless and straight hair like me; can actually add some spunk to their look and was thus pleasantly surprised!!!)

1.)   This is quite time consuming yet you can decide if you want to do 3 or your whole head! Do on dry hair unless you have hair bands for each piece…
2.)   Take a stand of hair and divide into two. Decide on desired look, this is dependent on the thickness of the strand of hair you take so play around in the mirror to get an idea.
3.)    Now wrap these pieces around one another quite tight in a twisting twirling motion.
4.)   Use two fingers to rub the hair together to aid in it actually clinging together and ‘meshing’ or ‘knotting’.
5.)   At the ends do the same rubbing technique to seal off the twirl!

The Twist

Most of you should know this! It’s great for wet hair and dry hair alike – it’s especially easy when you have conditioner in your hair as it sets it quite well and just looks super funky!

1.)   Condition the hair. Take a clip, comb, finger or anything you desire that will help you to section or part the hair and get your first parting ready.
2.)   Once the first parting (line) is done do one next to it (try not to go too thick but again this also depends on the look you are going for so practice and play around.)
3.)   Once you have that section of hair. Start rolling it into the ‘twirl’, so working from the hairline roll the hair back towards the crown of your head and hold this together by placing a slide clip horizontally on your head!
TIP: I take my first section from the inner point of each eyebrow and work down towards the ear. This is a fun and funky look that is super easy.

That’s it from me – hope you have fun’ Funking’ it Up this summer!
