For the Love of Colour – Makeup

For the Love of ColourSummer is the perfect time to experiment with makeup colour – it’s a season full of sunshine and festivities. If you’re not used to wearing bold colours, it’s best to stick to colour on just one facial feature.

Lips
A neutral face with a bold red lip is always classically beautiful and perfect for festive parties. No matter what your skin tone is, there is the perfect red for you. If you’re unsure, go chat to the assistants at the counter – they’ll help you pick out your personal knock-out look in no time. If you aren’t a fan of lipstick, why not try out a balm stain?

Cheeks
A sweep of blush on the apples of your cheeks will give you a lovely glow. Remember to start softly and then gently build up until you get the colour you desire: you can always add more easily, but removing and starting from scratch is less than fun. Read blusher reviews

Eyes
Bright eye makeup is one of the biggest trends for this season. Replace your usual taupe and brown eye shadows with a rainbow of colours: think purple, turquoise, coral, emerald… Use your favourite colour to recreate a smoky eye for a beautiful evening look. Alternatively, use a small damp brush to apply your shadow as a liner for a fun pop of colour. A good starting place for a colour that will be flattering on you is to look opposite to your eye colour on a colour wheel – for example, blue eyes look great with copper. However, don’t be afraid to break the rules – experimenting can be loads of fun!

Nails
I love wearing a bright polish on my toes in summer – it’s the one time of year when they’re exposed and it just provides a happy injection of colour every time I look down. Treat yourself to a pedicure (or DIY it if, like me, you’re on a budget) regularly, and don’t be shy- you can get away with much bolder shades on your toes than on your fingers. My favourite makeup colours for this summer are hot pink, yellow, lilac and mint.
