Blonde Ambition

Have you long lusted after the platinum tresses of Gwen Stefani or the rosy gold hue of Blake Lively’s locks? So have we, and, for a while, the chances of attaining their hair colour was a long lost dream.

That was, until now; haircare brands have recognised the needs of blonde babes the world over and developed at-home hair dyes that allow us to achieve the perfect blonde in the comfort of our own homes.

Before you dive head first into the bleach, consider this:

If you’re transforming yourself from a brunette babe into a blonde bombshell then it’ll take a lot of bleaching and colour stripping to reach your desired blonde. As lightening your hair strips it of pigment and its lubricative outer layer of lipids, it makes sense your hair will not only look different but will also feel drier. All is not lost however; with the right products your hair will suffer minimal damage. Blonde hair is extremely high maintenance and costly to keep in up, so if funds are a little tight this may not be the ideal hair colour for you.

Keep your skin tone in mind when selecting your blonde shade. Warm skin tones look lovely with natural golden colours while cooler skin tones can rock icier hues. Darker skin tones should opt for warm caramel highlights, which can also brighten the skin tone, a la Keri Hilson.

As tempting as it is to go from brown to platinum blonde in one day, don’t. This can cause irreparable damage to your hair, and in extreme cases means you’ll have to cut all your hair off. If you must, then pay a visit to your hairdresser who will be able to dye your hair professionally.
When using box dye try to only go two shades lighter then your natural hair colour. This is less damaging to the hair and looks the most natural.
