Beauty on a Budget

milkTimes are tough and beauty products cost a fortune.  I’m sure if I added up every cent I’ve spent on the various products I’ve used over the years, I’d come up with a shocking amount!  I’m always on the lookout for shortcuts that are pocket friendly, my favourite is MILK.

Milk has nine essential nutrients that benefit health:

  • Calcium – builds healthy bones and teeth
  • Protein – source of energy, repairs muscle tissue
  • Potassium – helps maintain a healthy blood pressure
  • Phosphorus – helps strengthens bones and generate energy
  • Vitamin D – helps maintain bones
  • Vitamin B12 – maintains healthy red blood cells and nerve tissue
  • Vitamin A – maintain immune system, helps maintain normal vision
  • Riboflavin (B2) – converts food into energy
  • Niacin – metabolizes sugars and fatty acids

Beauty uses for milk:
Gentle face scrub for oily skin – Mix 1 teaspoon of powdered skim milk with 1 teaspoon of honey.  Add a few drops of fresh lemon juice and gently massage face with this mixture.  Rinse thoroughly.

Deflate puffy eyes:  Dip cotton pads into cold whole milk and apply to lids for 3 mins.  Whole milk is an anti inflammatory and the lactic acid diminishes the dark circles.

Skin soother:  Milk and honey bath a la Cleopatra.  Add 2 drops lavender oil, 1 tablespoon honey and 1 cup whole milk to a warm bath.
Soak as long as you like, then shower to remove all traces of milk and honey.

Stronger and longer nails:  Once a week, soak your hands in warmed up cup of full cream milk  for 3 minutes, rinse and moisturise.
