Beauty Innovations to Look Forward to in 2013

Create your own beauty spa at home. Find out how you can here.

If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the search for the next best beauty buy.  I love reading about new treatments and innovations in the world of beauty and skincare.  Yes, there are some crazy ones out there, the kind that celebs undergo i.e. bird poop facials and the like but there are some really great products to look forward to.

For example:

Mascara dye:
If you are one of those ladies who has to have her eyelashes regularly, there is a DIY answer for you.  Italian cosmetics company Diego Dalla Palma has launched a mascara that dyes your lashes!!!!! Its semi permanent and you apply it in the same way you would your usual mascara.  After 5 days of daily use your lashes will darken and this lasts for up to 15 days.  Amazing!!

Slip free aromatherapy:
One of my favourite ways to unwind from a long and stressful day is to run a bath, burn some scented candles, pour some aromatherapy oils in the water and some wine on the side.  I can feel the stress melt away into the water but the worst part is getting out of the bath and fear of slipping and breaking my neck and the tiresome cleanup operation that follows. That is now a thing of the past as Gelcity Gel Spa Therapeutic Gel Bath has made a gel formulation. So basically you add it to your bath water and the water turns to a jelly like consistency, it retains heat up to 3 times longer so you can enjoy the benefits even longer.  When its time to drain the bath you just add a salt solution which turns the gel back into water, this is truly genius!!!!

Scrub your scalp:
Philip Kingsley launched a scrub for your scalp.  I happen to suffer from an itchy/flaky scalp and I’ve been using this brand for months and it truly works.  This product is like a face scrub but for your scalp sloughing off those flakes that accumulate and don’t necessarily get washed away with your regular shampoo.  It contains soothing Aloe Vera and Peppermint Oil for that cool tingling feeling.  I can’t wait to try this out.

Sulphate Free on the cheap:
L’ Oreal has jumped onto the sulphate free bandwagon.  Many of us are aware of the use of sodium lauryl sulphates in shampoos (this is the stuff that makes your shampoo, soap and detergents foamy and can irritate your skin and scalp).  When getting hair treatments done like the Brazilian Blow dry you are advised to buy SLS free products as this makes the treatment last longer.  I know from personal experience that these salon products are incredibly pricey.  I spent R500 on a shampoo and conditioner after I had my Brazilian done! Now there’ll be a store bought option and it won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I really hope these beauty products make their way to our shores in the near future.
