Week 3 - Lancôme Advanced Génifique - A mad scientist's secret recipe to youth?

Week 3 - Lancôme Advanced Génifique - A mad scientist's secret recipe to youth?

And in the blink of an eye it's Week 3! The texture of my skin has changed noticeably – my foundation goes on more smoothly due to increased hydration, my skin looks radiant and best of all, the laugh lines around my mouth has disappeared. Here is me after week 3 - excuse the stress pimples(oO)

So what makes Lancôme so good?

Firstly it is a water based serum – meaning it will hydrate skin without making it oily or clogging pores. It has a lot of antioxidants (eg. Vitamin C labelled as ascorbyl glucoside). This protects skin from environmental damage and UV rays that we are exposed to daily. Antioxidants penetrate the skin and stops pollution from damaging collagen and elastin and even protects against cancer. The Vitamin C present in Lancôme evens out skin tone, fades sun damage, reduces post-acne scarring and boosts skin protection against UV exposure.

The serum also contains Sodium Hyaluronate – this is a form of Hyaluronic Acid that has the ability to hold up to a 1000 times its weight in water and is smaller than Hyaluronic Acid enabling better absorption. It is present in youthful skin, however levels decline with age. It penetrates deep, plumping up the skin by holding onto moisture thus showing noticeable changes in aged/dehydrated skin.

It also has a unique ingredient called Bifida ferment lysate which is a probiotic culture. Though there has not been independent research on the effectiveness of this ingredient, probiotics in general are said to balance out the skin and reduce inflammation and redness.

The final ingredient and the one negative that I always harp on about is Alcohol. Alcohol is said to be pro-aging and can be drying to the skin. The presence of alcohol is not always negative. Some serums do contain alcohol for purposes of preservation (eg. Benzyl alcohol) but is present in low quantities and does not dry skin out. However, I really wish an alternative was found to the alcohol denat in this product.

So all in all, Lancôme as a serum is really good – but is it the best? Stay tuned for my decision next week!
