Nudes can be naughty and nice! - Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

Wow, there’s something about owning an Urban Decay eye shadow palette. I guess the hype surrounding them is so big that you can’t help but be super stoked when you land one.

The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette is just that, basic. But basic is beautiful. The shadows, when applied over primer, go on smoothly but some shades do drag on the skin a bit. I was surprised to notice some fallout.

There are six shades in the palette:

Venus: Champagne-white shimmer (Satin)

Foxy: Beige  (Satin)

Walk of Shame: Cream (Matte)

Naked 2: Light brown (Matte)

Faint: Dark brown (Matte)

Crave: Intense Black (Matte)

This palette is great for creating a soft neutral look but can be amped up by smoking up the crease with the darker colours.

Venus works perfect as a highlight color for the inner corner of the eye and under the brow bone.

Darker skin stones can pull off Foxy as a subtle highlight but this shades makes for a great base colour.

Naked 2 is best used for soft definition in the crease and is an all round gorgeous transition colour.

Use Faint to create dimension in the crease for a classic, neutral smokey eye, that’s always on trend.

Crave is an intense black. Applied to the upper and lower lash line or used in the crease to smoke out the eye, it will take this look from day to night.

Overall, this is a great palette. I must say though, I would use them primarily as transition colours because they are so soft, deep and pigmented with super staying power.

A cheaper alternative would be the NYX Love in Paris (Madelines and macaroons) that is available at selected Clicks stores for R170. Urban Decay Naked Basics did sell at for R400 but are currently out of stock. has these palettes and other UD palettes in stock for about the same price.( Their palettes are in  USD so I’m estimating.) I’m lusting after the others . . . and Christmas is five months away, sigh . . .
