New In & First Impressions - L'Oréal Revitalift Filler Renew

New In & First Impressions - L'Oréal Revitalift Filler Renew

I'm sure many, many ladies (and gents) would agree with me when I say ageing is a major skincare concern.I'll admit: The older I get (it feels like 35 is approaching way too fast!), the more dedicated I am to my skincare routine. I'm always on the hunt for innovative products, and these days I'm really into researching anti-ageing ingredients. Sometimes I find myself reading up on new beauty trends, skincare tips & tricks, and 3 hours (and 2 online shopping situations) later...well, let's just say my beauty cupboard is full of the latest & greatest skincare innovations. Some of them turn out to be winners, and others unfortunately just don't make the cut. I recently had an 'Aha Moment' - I really should start investing in products that not only reduce fine lines and wrinkles, but ALSO plump up the skin.

Loss of volume is a characteristic of mature skin, and at the tender age of 33, I'm already dealing with volume loss just below my eyes (around the tear trough) extending to my inner upper cheek area. My granny always used to say:  "Oudword is nie vir sissies nie." - and boy, was she right! I try to colour correct and conceal these hollow areas but makeup can only do so much - I'd much rather treat the real issue, and not just cover it up.

Fortunately there are skincare products on the market that specifically target volume loss by plumping up the skin for a more youthful appearance. However, the benefits of using these products won't be seen overnight - it takes weeks of continued use for the active ingredients to do their job. That's why I always like to test skincare products for at least 3 or 4 weeks before I write up a proper review.

The RevitaLift Filler Renew skincare line from L'Oréal helps to stabilise volume to restore youthful skin fullness, plus works to give the skin a smooth, lifted appearance, whilst filling out expression lines and wrinkles. Here's what L'Oréal has to say about the skincare range: "L'Oréal Paris reveals a new collection of anti-aging skincare products that help correct skin volume loss, a sign of aging that often gets neglected. The special formulation contains an exceptionally high concentration of skin plumping ingredients Hyaluronic Acid and Fibroxyl, which provide an effective solution to thinning skin, fine lines, wrinkles and volume loss."

I've mentioned Hyaluronic Acid (HA) quite a few times on the blog already, but the main benefit of using skincare products that contain HA is increased moisture content. The magic of HA lies in its ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water - in fact, one gram of Hyaluronic Acid is able to hold up to 6 liters of water. Crazy, right? Moisture retention is key when you're looking to target volume loss. Hyaluronic Acid also strengthens the skin's barrier - and a healthy barrier looks (and feels) softer, smoother and plumper.

The Revitalift Filler Renew products were developed to mimic the double effect of dermal fillers i.e. the plumping action of HA, and a type of trigger brought on by the swelling of the HA molecules to stimulate fibroblasts. A fibroblast is a type of cell that produces collagen.More fibroblasts = increased collagen production = healthy, younger looking skin.

Many people think Hyaluronic Acid molecules are too big to penetrate the uppermost layer of the skin, this is true for the most part - BUT L'Oréal has managed to formulate a fragmented HA of a low enough molecular weight to successfully penetrate the epidermis and high enough concentration to be effective.

In today's blog post I'd like to introduce you to the 4 products that are currently part of the L'Oréal Revitalift Filler Renew lineup. I've been using these products for the past 7 days, so I feel I can only give you my first impression of each product. I'll be posting another final indepth review in a couple of weeks, documenting my experience using the Revitalift Filler Renew Hyaluronic Replumping Serum, Revitalift Filler Renew Anti-Ageing Day Replumping Care, Revitalift Filler Renew Filler Precision Eye Cream, and Revitalift Filler Renew Anti-Ageing Night Replumping Care. Phew! That's a mouthful!

First things first: The packaging looks like a big scary hospital syringe, right? I assume it's reminiscent of the needles used for dermal fillers, and as mentioned earlier, the RevitaLift Filler Renew products work at cellular level to mimic the effect of dermal fillers. Is the packaging kind of gimmicky? You'll have to decide for yourself, but I think it's quite cute! The airless syringe pump dispenses the perfect amount of serum to cover one half of my face - a little goes a long way, so this product should last you for at least 6 months. I really like the consistency of this serum, it feels super lightweight on the skin and leaves a veil of softness behind. It absorbs really quickly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated.

The serum does have a noticeable floral fragrance, which might be problematic for sensitive skin types. For the past few weeks my skin has been normal, leaning towards dehydrated with dry areas on my forehead and cheeks. The dry areas can be quite sensitive at times, but I haven't had any issues with the fragrance of this product causing irritation / sensitivity.

When do I apply this? Every morning, and every night.

As mentioned earlier, I want the firmness and plump skin I had in my teens! So far, my experience using the daily moisturiser has been quite pleasant - it's rich, and instantly hydrating, without being too heavy on the skin. It contains glycerin (listed as the second ingredient), which is not only a skin repairing ingredient, but it's also a humectant (meaning it helps to retain water in the skin). Glycerin also acts as a 'glue' when applied to the skin, so anything you apply on top of it will stick to it.If you're not into makeup primers, then the glycerin in your daytime moisturiser will help your makeup to last just that little bit longer.

Did you know? The Revitalift Filler Renew product range contains the highest concentration of Hyaluronic Acid the brand has used to date.

When do I apply this? Every morning.

We've already established that as we age, our skin loses its fullness and wrinkles deepen. No topically applied skincare product will be able to do what an actual dermal filler does, however, an eye cream with a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid will reduce the appearance of wrinkles and smoothen the under eye area. The Revitalift Filler Renew eye cream promises to boost the delicate under eye skin with moisture, helping to reduce under eye bags. I'll be honest: I haven't seen noticeable results after using this eye cream for only 7 days. Even though active ingredients start to work immediately, any changes in the skin will only be noticeable after a good couple of weeks. I love the texture of this eye cream, it feels super luxurious and leaves my dry under eye area looking smoother, and feeling hydrated and nourished.

The applicator of this eye cream really is something special - the one side is curved to perfectly follow the tear trough (the hollow of the under eye contour area), and the other side is flat to massage and reduce the appearance of eye bags. The metal tip feels very cooling on the skin, helping to depuff those pesky under eye bags.

When do I apply this? Every morning, and every evening.

The look and feel of this night cream was so interesting when I first opened up the jar - it's a periwinkle hued night-time moisturiser with a gel-cream formula.I like that it hydrates and nourishes my dull skin, without overloading it or leaving it feeling greasy.  It absorbs a lot quicker than most of my other night creams (love that!) and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth.

When do I apply this?  Every night.

Considering the amount of research, science and technology that has gone into these products, it really is an affordable skincare range for someone who is looking to target the effects of ageing without breaking the bank.

Check back in on the blog in a couple of weeks' time, I'll be sure to include 'Before' and 'After' photos as part of the review then.
