Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

I have now accepted that I'm a late bloomer and tend to get on the band wagon a little later than others, with that said – let's talk Coconut Oil – I've seen the reviews and video's for a while now but never really paid attention. I finally decided to try this out to see what all the hype was about.

Let's get clear on one thing first, there are many uses for coconut oil but I specifically wanted to try it on my skin.

Organic Organic Dischem Dischem

I finally managed to get myself to the nearest Dischem store to see if I could pick this little baby up. I decided to try the Dischem house brand as this for me was going to be a test run.

Usage: after a long day with make-up on, I decided to use the coconut oil to remove my make-up. I applied a generous amount on my face and massaged it into my skin. It has a white appearance with a thick consistency and on application it basically melts on your face. I simply rubbed the oil in circular motion all over my face and neck, and gently massaged in and left it on for a good two minutes. Then took my cotton wool and started to remove the make-up. I was happily surprised at how much make-up it removed and the best is that it left my skin feeling extremely moisturised.

I proceeded to wash my face with my normal cleanser and pat drying. Once all that was done, I again applied some coconut oil on my face as a moisturiser. It has an incredible feeling on my skin and the softness it brings with it and the best of all – no negative reaction to my skin.

Now coconut oil is a great natural antibacterial and antifungal oil which can also be used for your hair and cooking. This truly is an inexpensive way to take care of your skin.

I've now added this to my regular regime as a moisturiser and make-up remover. Caution – don't apply too much and end up looking like you're an oil generating machine – a little goes a long way.

The Dischem house brand retails for around R34 for the 200ml bottle. They also have the Organic range which comes in a little bucket container which retails for around R100.

It's truly worth the try.
