On a crisp autumn Cape Town morning, I attended an intimate gathering at Four & Twenty Café to get to know luxe German skincare brand Babor a little better. Heads up: Babor may just be your best bet to get thirsty skin back into shape for when the sun comes out to play.
So, what is it that sets Babor apart? The brand ticks every box, using only sustainably produced organic ingredients as well as being paraben and cruelty free suitable for all skin types and ethnicities. Guided through the range by a Babor representative, I got to play with some of the gorgeous Babor range which consists of a whopping 364 products. Three clear favourites emerged – the perfect trio to keep skin in tip-top condition this winter:
Babor Cleansing CP Hy-Öl (R 422)
If you think cleansing oils are a new-fangled fad, think again. Dr Michael Babor’s first-ever product in 1956 was Hy-Öl: a soap-free cleansing oil that effortlessly lifts impurities and makeup.
Ingredients: Soybean, sesame and peanut oils.
Efficacy: Leaves skin feeling conditioned and fresh.
Babor Cleansing CP Phytoactive Base (R 341)
The perfect complement to Hy-Öl, this cleanser has an astringent effect to remove excess oil and close pores. Babor recommend applying 3 pumps of Hy-Öl, then mixing it with two pumps of Phytoactive Base before adding water to create a foamy lather.
Ingredients: Babor-exclusive detoxifying Agrimonia eupatoria extract and invigorating Mint, Birch and Rosemary essences
Efficacy: Babor Anti-Aging Sun Care SPF50 (R 757)
The sun may be on vacation in other parts of the world, but UV protection is vital all year round. This may just be the ultimate in sun care: no white cast, no funny smell and no shiny T-zone in sight. Apply liberally after cleansing and moisturising.
Texture: A milky, non-greasy formula that leaves skin hydrated minus an oily sheen.
Efficacy: Offers hardcore sun protection without the icky sunscreen scent.
While these skincare gems won’t work with every budget, they’re worthwhile investments if you’re serious about the future of your skin, next summer and all the summers to come. Oh well, a girl can dream…
