Age-defying eye make-up tricks and tips

Our eyes are the most noticeable feature on our face and the one of the features we most like to enhance with make-up. When those tell-tale lines, dark circles and puffy lids appear, there are fortunately a few tricks we can use to minimise the damage.

Most important in your arsenal are your eyelash curler and your mascara wand. Before you apply mascara, use an eyelash curler to enhance the shape of your lashes and make your eyes pop. The trick is to make sure you get to the very base of your lashes, pump the curler a few times and then repeat that process. This works much better to give your curl a more natural shape than holding the curler in that position for a minute. To give your curl more hold, try warming up the curler with your hairdryer for a few seconds before using it. Make sure you use a black mascara, even if you are fair, as black mascara makes the whites of the eyes look whiter.

Eye wands

Use a white pencil in the inner corners of your eye and blend it in well. This will also have an eye-opening affect and will brighten the look of your eyes.

Fill in your eyebrows and enhance their shape with a good eyebrow pencil. If you have very sparse brows, concentrate on those areas that are the most sparse and opt for eyebrow threading, rather than waxing. Threading gives your eyebrows a much more natural shape.

If you are bothered by dark circles under your eyes, use a yellow-toned concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. Use it sparingly over just the dark areas though and make sure you pat it in with your fingertips, so that it is well-blended.  Never over-conceal, as the concealer will sink into your lines and that will just make you look older.

To rid yourself of puffy-looking eyes, the old teabag trick works like a charm. Put your used teabags in the fridge and when your eyes need to be depuffed, apply an ice-cold teabag directly to your closed lid for 10 minutes or so. The caffeine and the coldness are what do the trick!

So there you have it, ladies! Some tricks to keep your eyes looking fabulous. Let us know if you have any age-defying eye-make up tricks of your own.
