5 Undisruptive Exercises to try at Work

Humans are not meant to be sitting and staring at a computer for as long as they do on a daily basis. This is why many people end up with various ailments such as obesity, varicose veins and back problems among others. However, many of us do not have much of a choice when it comes to sitting at a desk and staring at a computer screen all day (me included), so here are a few exercises to try while at the office that will not be disruptive to your co-workers or make them think you are weird.

Calf Raises

While you are waiting for the kettle to boil, the microwave or when you are by the copy machine or fax machine, you can do simple calf raises as you wait. It will look as if you are impatiently waiting, but you are actually working your calf muscles for a few minutes.

Walking

During your lunch break, take a walk out of the office. This will give you some fresh air and help raise your heartbeat a bit. You can keep a spare pair of flat pumps in your desk for your lunch time walk even if you know how to comfortably wear heels all day. To make it more fun, ask a co-worker to accompany you and you can spend a few minutes catching up on work and life as you take a walk.

Take the Stairs

Many of you would have guessed that this office exercise tip would find itself on this list. That is because it WORKS and is EFFECITIVE. Climbing three or four flights of stairs is a great way to get blood flowing. You can do this during a tea break or a toilet break without disturbing anyone. You can even carry a folder with you to make it look like you are delivering something to another floor in the building.

Toe Raises

This is a fantastic exercise that you can do while sitting and can even be done absent minded. With your feet firmly placed down, raise only your toes, but keep your heels down. This is a good exercise for your shins and you can spend all day doing it and no one will know.

Leg Raises

Other discreet way to get some exercise done at your desk is leg raises. To do this, sit upright and bring your feet together. Place your feet flat onto the ground and raise your legs up. Remember to keep your knees together and hold for as long as you can. Then place your legs back down. Repeat throughout the day and as often as you want to. It is ideal if you have little space under your desk as you do not have to stretch your legs outwards. It is also a great way of working on your thigh muscles and even abdominal muscles.
