What Type of Moisturiser is Best for My Skin Type?

How sure are you that you’re using the best moisturiser to suit your skin type and needs?

All skin types benefit from the use of some type of moisturiser. Understanding your skin type is the best starting point for determining what type of moisturiser will be most beneficial to you. How sure are you that you’re using the best moisturiser to suit your skin type and needs? Find out below…

Dry Skin
Because dry skin feels flaky, dry, and tight, you will need a heavier, oil-based moisturiser that will absorb completely into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple. Oils are more effective than creams at preventing water evaporation and keeping the skin moist.

Normal Skin
Normal skin looks vibrant, elastic and smooth and has a good circulation and healthy complexion. As this skin type already has a healthy moisture balance, water-based moisturisers containing lightweight oils will help maintain healthy, normal skin.

Oily Skin
Oily skin is greasy, especially through the T-zone, has enlarged pores and tends to have frequent breakouts. This skin type will benefit from an oil-free, water-based moisturiser. Find a moisturiser that leaves a matte finish on the skin. This will minimize shine and the appearance of large pores. If you have oily skin, use ALL moisturisers sparingly. Also, look for products labelled “noncomedogenic,” which means they are formulated to prevent clogged pores.

Combination Skin
Combination skin has patches of both dry and oily skin and requires different types of care in relation to the particular facial areas. The dry areas should be treated with a dense moisturiser, while the oily areas will benefit from an oil-free, water-based moisturiser.

Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can become inflamed and irritated easily. This skin type can develop reddish and scaly areas, which can be very itchy and tingly. Fragile and prone to breaking out, sensitive skin needs a moisturiser that does not contain fragrances or dyes and is specially formulated for this skin type.
