Top Beauty Tips for Teens!

Article by: Donna Hay from www.makeupbulletin.com

This week in our teen section, we want to address one or two questions that we get asked repeatedly.
Here goes!

Questions:
1st – What colours can I wear on my eyes?
2nd – What is the best foundation for me?
3rd – How much make-up should I wear?
4th – Where is the best place to go for a make-up application, if I’m going to a party?
5th – Lastly, how do I decide what look to go for?

Answers:
1. What colours can I wear on my eyes?
As a teen, you can pretty much get away murder! (okay, not quite, but you know what we mean) Try not to make your make-up look heavy though, with thick foundations or too much blusher etc, but when it comes to eye shadow colours, have fun and experiment. Teens can play with glitter eye-liners, bright fashion
colours and various smoky eye looks that are playful and different and will really make you stand out from your peers.
• We love MACS range – they have every colour under the rainbow! Also check out new make-up range Bellapierre cosmetics.

2. What is the best foundation for me?
You may not think so now, (I know I didn’t when I was your age!) but apart from the odd zit, your skin is about the best it will ever look. Young, fresh and full of vitality. So, don’t cover yourself up with thick gooey foundations, rather opt for a tinted moisturiser instead.
p.s. If you suffer from acne or have very bad pimples, ask your Mum or Dad if they can afford to help you have it sorted out. A dermatologist can have your skin on the road to recovery in no time. We know how horrible it is to have bad skin and be embarrassed to be seen with no make-up on, so explain to them how important it is, and see if they can help you find a solution. It’s not the end of the world and just takes a bit of patience and you will have gorgeous skin in no time!

3. How much make-up should I wear?
As mentioned above, your skin is at its prime when you are young, so don’t clog it up with heavy matte foundations and powders etc. As mentioned, try a moisturised tint. Also, lip glosses look great on teens as opposed to lip liners and lipstick. If you are going for a dark smoky eye, keep the rest of your make-up light and lips nude. For bright red Marilyn Monroe lips, keep your eyes light, perhaps just a bit of natural eye shadow and some mascara. In other words, choose one feature that you want to accentuate, and concentrate on doing just that.

4. Where is the best place to go for a make-up application, if I’m going to a party?
There are shops that offer make-up applications for free, if you buy one or two products. Well worth it!
We love the MAC counter, as they are young and funky and do matric dances, smoky eyes for gorgeous evenings out and even make-up for themed parties.

5. Lastly, how do I decide what look to go for?
Your look is largely dependant on what time of the day it is, the nature of the event or party that you are attending, and also, it needs to compliment your outfit! If you are going to a breakfast with your cute neighbour, keep it light and fresh. Daytime make-up shouldn’t be too dark. If you are going out in the evening, you can whip out your sexy, smoky eye ideas! Evening make-up can be more dramatic as the lighting at night is a lot less harsh than broad daylight so you can go a lot darker. The girls at MAC get away with alot of funky make-up. Why? Their standard work attire is black and you can wear a lot brighter make-up if you are wearing all black. So, consider your outfit when deciding what makeup to apply.
