To Bang or Not to Bang? Find Your Best Bangs Now!

Bangs can enhance any face shape if they are worn the right way. They can highlight your best facial features, and have the power to soften any look, while adding edge to it at the same time.

Do you feel intimidated by this banging hair trend? You won’t after seeing just how stylish they can be. Here are a few ideas and tips on how to pull off bangs to suit your face shape:

The Lash-Grazing Bangs
This style screams attitude! Trimmed to the lashes and angled down slightly at the temples, these bangs add mystery to your look and become the focus of your entire hairstyle. Highly dramatic, this blunt, heavy fringe adds width, softening and flattering those with heart and long-shaped faces.

Tip: Before you cut your bangs, determine how smooth your hair gets when you blow-dry it. Since hair stretches when it is wet, cut your bangs while they are dry. This way you will know exactly how they’ll fall once they’ve been styled. You don’t want to skip this rule, especially if you have naturally curly hair.

The Statement-Making Bangs
Statement-making because that’s exactly what they are… a fashion statement! Cut straight across just above the brows, these bangs are strong, making them ideal for round or square-shaped faces.

Tip: To avoid having your bangs cut too short, trim them gradually. Cut them longer at first. Then take them up in increments until you reach the perfect length. Another tip is to flat iron your bangs once they’ve been blown dry. This gives them edgy definition.

The Arched Bangs
This is a lighter, more bohemian take on the lash-grazing style of bangs. Arched bangs are trimmed into two sections – one that falls directly over the forehead, followed by longer layers on either side that blend in with the rest of the hair. This style is perfect for oval-shaped faces. As an added bonus, it camouflages the corners of the eyes where many women show the first signs of aging. Need I say more?

Tip: When styling your hair, ease up on the styling products. Use as little product on your bangs as possible and make sure to comb it through your hair properly. There’s nothing worse than a sticky, greasy-looking fringe.

The Parted Bangs
Parted down the middle, these bangs keep hair out of the way, but draw attention to some of your other best features. Bangs like these can also help make the transition to a grown-out style. The wispy side layers look soft and feminine, especially when the rest of the hair is swept back. Parted bangs work best for heart and oval-shaped faces.

Tip: When applying your face cream and makeup, make sure that they’re fully absorbed into your skin before letting your bangs down. Play it safe by dabbing your forehead with some face powder or with an oil-blotting tissue. You don’t want the oils to transfer to your hair, making it look greasy.

The Side-Swept Bangs
Not forgetting, the sexy side-swept bangs. This style of bangs has a long sweeping layer that creates a vertical line where the hair starts to swoop. This can either thin a round-shaped face or soften hard features of a square-shaped face.

Tip: To achieve this look, you will need to condition your hair to drape to the side. Steal this look by trimming a section of your hair in the front of your face so that the longest point falls above the tip of your nose. Then blow-dry it with a round brush and set in a pin curl for a few minutes. To set your bangs, finish off with a mist of hairspray.
