Tantalising Tresses: The Sexiest Hairstyles and Hair Tips

Men and women are completely different. Our attitudes towards the simplest of things can be starkly different in outlook and surprise, surprise, the same thing applies to our hair (kind of). While some of us fabulous women approach our hair in the same way a foodie might approach fine dining or a gamer may approach their latest pc upgrade (all with the sincerest attention to detail and research), men are (un)surprisingly simple in this respect. Yes, there are the men out there who are way more style orientated than your average guy and appreciates the latest, cutting edge hair trend but there are many who enjoy the (outwardly) simple hairstyle and after doing some field research with my husband’s friends, this is the result:

Simplicity is Key:
Your hair can be long or mid-length, guys seem to prefer simpler hairstyles on women. One of the guys interviewed said that it made women seem “unfussy”. Some said it was more feminine. Ponytails are the Queen Bee of simple hairstyles and while we may slap a ponytail on when our hair won’t behave, even the simplest hairstyles require a bit of prep work. Make sure that your hair isn’t greasy looking. If you’ve skipped a wash, simply give it a spritz with some dry shampoo. Out of dry shampoo? Baby powder works just fine as the talc is an absorbing agent and removes the grease. Once your hair is up in a pony, give it a quick run through with a flat iron to add sleekness or create a slight curl. Pull out a few pieces to create a softer and more carefree look.

Lavish Layers:
Long, layered hair is a top contender. Men seem to find loose, layered hair devastatingly attractive on women and this style is one that works so well on everyone. Layers give the hair great texture, movement and body and the overall appearance of healthy hair. Layered hair is easy to wear and to style and one is never at a loss when it comes to ease of styling. Men seem to find woman more approachable. Keep your layers in check with a regular trim every 6-8 weeks.

Shine On:
Sometimes it’s just the overall health of your hair that can take your special someone’s breath away. Sleek, shiny hair gives you the air that you take care of yourself and that’s always sexy. Keep your hair in tip-top shape with a regular clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner once a month.

Pretty Pixies:
This one surprised me. I’d always thought that all guys preferred long hair (sorry for the generalisation) but that’s clearly not the case. “Short haircuts are exciting” said one interviewee. “They make a woman appear outgoing and fun. And confident!” While it may be a classic pixie or a pixie with much longer bangs, this style is a winner. Both can be worn super sleek and sophisticated or spunky with loads of texture.

Bob’s your uncle:
Why is the bob loved? It shows the back of your sexy, kissable neck. Keep it messy and sassy or sleek and chic.

Bang, bang:
Eye skimming bangs give the allure of mystery and sensuality and automatically give one a “come hither” stare. Have your hair cut into full bangs and blow dry with a round brush. Bangs seem a big commitment? Try some clip in ones for ease of use!

Bed Head:
This needs no explanation as to why it’s sexy. You know, I know, we all know. Bed head styles can be worn with all hair lengths and styles and is the most carefree look of them all. Want some bed head (without the bed?), use a sea salt spray on damp hair and let it air dry naturally. Keep twisting your hair all the while it dries. Have hair that doesn’t behave when left to air dry? Dry and style as usual and apply a wax product to your hair by scrunching and mist through with a touch of hairspray.
