According to the information in the packaging as well as my trusted beauty therapist, this cleansing mitten was supposed to clean my skin using warm water only (seriously?!)
Having basically started a 3 step cleansing process since the age of 13, I was pretty adamant that nothing could replace my cleansing liquid and toner but at R100 what did I have to lose except for my blemish free skin? (the things I do for you guys!)
According to the website “It cleans your skin using warm water only. When soaked, the cloths fibres attract & remove oil, makeup or bacteria from the skin’s surface instantly!
Smittens gently exfoliate as it cleans – works effectively without cleansers, wipes or scrubs (can be used with your choice of cleanser for a complete clean!) Be kind to your skin by cleansing with warm water & maintain its sensitive acid mantle (pH) balance, avoiding premature aging, allergies and skin eruptions.”

It’s a microfibre cloth for your face!
There are clear instructions in the packaging on how to use the mitten and I really suggest you follow them otherwise you can end up damaging your skin.
To use the mitten juts place hand in your smitten and drench with warm/hot water
Wipe face, décolleté & neck – gently around the sensitive eye area.
Hold warmed smitten over eye for 5-15 seconds, then remove heavy /waterproof eye makeup with your finger tipped smitten
Do not rub for more than 1 minute in any one spot
I used the smitten taking off both my day time and evening make up and the results were amazing. It easily took off my day time make up without any cleanser. I would however suggest using a very gentle cleanser if you tend to use more makeup for your evening looks.
And although it says it can remove waterproof mascara with just water, I found that it did a great job to remove 99% of my mascara but I still had to use an eye makeup remover- but very, very little (is that the sound of me saving money?)
I was so impressed by the cleaning abilities of this mitten that I even decided to replace my toner and use the Smitten as recommended for toning my skin; which is to wet the mitten with chilled water and pat your face gently.
It left my skin feeling both smooth and clean. And to be honest it felt as if I had used my cleansing liquid and toner. I don’t know if skipping the toning part of your regime might be for everyone especially if you suffer with oily skin but I have combination skin type with an oily T-zone and it worked for me.
And cleaning this bad boy is simple, just use warm water and a gentle soap, air dry and use again when you need to. Plus it comes with a handy little travel case, which is perfect for those days I shower at gym.
