How To…Apply a Powder Foundation.

We may have gotten the hang of using a liquid foundation, but many of us are still having a power struggle with powder foundation. Available in either a compact, pressed form or as a powder, these foundations offer great coverage, eradicate shine and leave a soft, airbrushed effect on the skin. Application is super easy too, just follow our simple steps below:

Step 1: Prep your skin.
To allow for even coverage ensure your skin is properly cleansed and moisturised before applying any make-up. Once your moisturiser has absorbed, apply a primer. Remember you only need a pea-sized amount of primer to cover your entire face. Don’t go overboard as this can cause your foundation to pill. Next apply your concealer to areas on the face that need it.

Step 2: Decide on your formula.
Loose powder foundations are great for light coverage while pressed powder compacts offer heavier coverage.

Step 3: Loose Powder Application.
Pat a thick bristled powder brush into the powder, tap off any excess and apply the powder to your face. The best way to do this is to press the brush onto your skin in a gentle rolling motion. This allows you to layer the product and won’t make your face looked caked in make-up.

Step 4: Compact/Pressed Powder Application.
Soak an applicator sponge into warm water, squeeze out any excess liquid and swirl the sponge into the compact powder. Apply the powder from the centre of your face, blending outwards toward your hair and jawline. It’s best to apply with a light hand and layer accordingly, to avoid the dreaded mask look.

Step 5: Complete the Look.
Your foundation is now complete and you can go on applying your make-up however you see fit!
