Heart your Nails

The month of love is upon us ladies and there is no better way to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit than with a fun manicure! Read the easy to follow guidelines below and you’re sure to be sporting a cute love-filled manicure soon!
You will need:
–    Base coat nail polish
–    Top coat nail polish
–    Red nail polish
–    White nail polish
–    Sticky tape/French tip guides
–    Pair of scissors
–    Toothpicks (the tip is small enough to do the nail art successfully)

Method:
1) Apply base coat onto all nails and wait for it to dry completely.

2) Apply white nail polish to accent nails (ring finger nails) and red nail polish to remaining nails, wait for it to dry completely.

3) Cut sticky tape into 8 small pieces and apply your make shift ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ (or use proper french tip guides) to all nails except the ring fingers (accent nails). Make sure you gently but firmly press the sticky tape down onto the nails.

4) Paint the white nail polish onto all nails which have the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ on, wait a few seconds and then immediately pull off the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’. I find pulling the sticky tape off immediately will leave a cleaner line.

5) Once the white french tips are dry, start working on the heart details on the french tips. Carefully pour a small pool of red nail polish onto a scrap piece of paper. Dip the toothpick into the small pool of red nail polish and place three dots of red nail polish in an upside down triangle shape. The closer you place the three dots together the smaller the heart will be, the further away you place the three dots, the bigger the heart will be.

6) Take the toothpick and carefully pull each dot into each other so that it joins in the middle…once all the dots are joined, it will now resemble a heart shape. If you find there isn’t enough nail polish to pull in, simply re-dip the toothpick into the pool of red nail polish and fill in the heart design.

7) Start applying the heart designs on each nail at a time, start the first heart design on the middle of the french tip and then add in hearts on either side. If you start the heart design in the middle of the french tip your entire french tip is sure to be evenly covered in heart designs. Complete this step on all nails with white french tips.

8) Now to work on the accent nails, repeat steps 5 – 6 on both ring finger nails. Start applying the heart designs onto the ring finger nails in a haphazard design, vary the direction of the hearts and make a few hearts slightly bigger than the others. Ensure that you fill the entire nail with little heart designs.

9) When all the nail art is completely dry, apply the top coat nail polish to ensure that your ‘crazy-in-love-manicure’ lasts as long as possible!

May your month of February be filled with love, joy & happiness!
