Hair Care Tip – How To Wash and Detangle Your Hair

Hello Beauties, if you have long hair or are in the process of growing out your hair, you know what a schlep detangling hair is, so use this hair tip to help. In summer may become drier, due to sun damage or swimming, and this will cause your hair to tangle even more. Find out how you can best take care of your hair care.

When I had short ethnic hair I refused to put a comb through wet hair. If I had to detangle my hair I used my finger, but the longer my hair got the more tangled and knotted. I had to start detangling my hair with a comb when wet. When your hair is wet it’s also at its weakest, you have to be careful in order to prevent breakage.
I’ve been using the following technique for about two months now and I’ve definitely seen a difference. My hair tangles and knots less, meaning that it breaks less.
All you’ll need is your regular shampoo and conditioner, a brush, a wide tooth comb and a crocodile clip.

Normally I wash my hair in the shower, but this technique also works great when using a hand shower. Before wetting your hair, brush it out and ensure that there are no tangles. Your hair needs to be smooth you’re going to try and keep it smooth throughout the process. Just allow your hair to absorb the water and with your hands smooth it down, but do not finger comb your hair. You do not want to apply shampoo directly onto your hair, pour some in your wet hands and let it foam up before applying it to your scalp. Massage only your scalp with the shampoo. Do not at any point pile your hair onto the top of your head. By piling it up on the top of your head you will be creating knots and tangles, so you want to keep it as smooth as possible. If you need to wash the length of your hair, bring it over one of your shoulders and gently rub the shampoo down. Do not twist your hair, remember hair is at its weakest and loses its elasticity when wet. If you twist your hair, the strands will be pulled and you will get some breakage.
If you have a high pressure shower head, let the water rinse the shampoo out of your hair on its own or use your hands to smooth your hair in a downwards motion in order to help push the shampoo out.

Apply a very generous amount of conditioner by smoothing it down the hair shaft, paying particular attention to your ends. You want to detangle your hair while the conditioner is still on, but do not so it directly after applying it. It takes 3-5minutes for conditioner to effectively work. If you have long hair and you wash your hair in the shower, you’ll need to tie it up to keep it out of your way. I wrap my hair around my hand and clip it up. Remember to wrap and not twist your hair; you want to keep it as smooth as possible. You also do not want to pile it up on the top of your head. The longer you leave the conditioner on the better it is to detangle, so try to leave it on for at least five minutes.
Once you’ve removed the clip separate your hair just above your ears. Clip the top half by wrapping it around your hand as well, keeping it as smooth as possible.

Split the bottom half of your hair into two and bring the pieces over your shoulders. I have a three way wide-tooth comb. I start with the second widest part of the comb, as I would have minimal tangling and knots due to keeping my hair smooth while washing. Using your wide tooth comb you want to start from your ends and move up the hair shaft once you’ve ensured that the bottom part is detangled. If you come across a large knot, do not force your comb through it. Comb the knot out by working from the bottom of the knot. Repeat this step on the other side. When you reach the top of your head you want to use the same techniques.

If you do this, over time you will notice a drastic breakage reducing drastically. Naturally your hair will collect hairs, but if the hair is almost as long as the length of your hair and has a white bump at one of the ends you shouldn’t worry. That would be shedding, which is a natural process and new hair will grow in its place. If the hair is short with no bump, then that is breakage and you’ll want to be gentler with your hair while detangling, especially if your hair is damaged. With less breakage, your ends will look thicker and healthier. All this from just the best hair care!
