Gorgeous Makeup Trend: The Smokey Purple Eye!

rachel mcadams purple eye lookPurple is the colour of royalty, so why not rev up your makeup look and intensify your eyes with this pretty purple smokey eyes.

Who this looks best on
Purple eyeshadow looks fabulous on girls with brown, green or hazel eyes! The reason for this is that the colour contrasts so starkly to your eye colour making your eyes appear brighter, lighter and luminous.

Prep yo’ lids
Because you want the colour on your lids to really stand out (and to last!) it’s a good idea to prep your lids with some face makeup primer. This will help the colour look brighter.

Pick your shades
Basically to get this look right you’ll need three purple shades: a mid-purple base colour, a dark deep violet purple and a lilac shade to highlight. Try Inglot’s 491 DS as your darkest shade, it has a bit of shimmer for a more glam look.

MAC Devil May Care has the perfect silvery/lilac highlighter and mid-purple base shade.

Get the look
Start off with the mid-purple shade and brush it onto your eyelids. Next apply the darker shade along your upper lashline to just past the corner of your eyes and blend. Smudge the same dark shade from the outer corner of your eye to the mid-point of the your eye socket to create a v-shape at the corner of your eye. Fill in the “v” with more of the dark shadow. Add the lilac eyeshadow to the inner corner of your eyes, blending well. Use to highlighter on your browbone as well blending into the colour below it.

Lash it up!
Finish off with lashings of jet-black mascara for a “look at me” look.

What about your other makeup?
Your eyes are the focus of this look so the rest of your makeup should be kept minimal. Try a nude lip and softly-bronzed cheeks.
