Opium by Yves Saint Laurent
HotThis oriental-spicy perfume caused a huge stir when it was launched in the seventies, because of its name. Yves Saint Laurent was actually accused of condoning drug use in the US and a group of Chinese - Americans demanded a name change and a public apology from Yves Saint Laurent for "his insensitivity towards Chinese history". This group felt that the name "Opium" represented a "menace that had destroyed many lives in China". Luckily the name didnt get changed and Opium is still very much with us today. It is a "spicy, oriental harmony for extreme sensuality". Key notes: Top notes: mandarin and bergamot Middle notes: jasmine, lily of the valley and carnation Base NOtes: vanilla, patchouli and amber Packaged in a red box etched with a gold design inspired by the Orient. Comes in some stunning bottles for the more expensive bottles, but the 50ml EDT is presented in a glass bottle with the design on the box etched into it and topped with a red cap. Available from most perfume stockists for around R950,00 for 50ml EDT
