• Can redheads use the same makeup as everyone else? Is it more difficult for red heads to find the right colours of makeup?

• Donna. “Applying the right makeup can be a bit tricky if you are a red head. Often times red heads have sensitive and fair skin, and sometimes certain colours and tones can look harsh and brassy. Of course even red heads do have different undertones – so the advice I’m offering obviously is a generalisation. But in my experience, the colours I’m about to share with you work extremely well on natural red heads, and I have also included some pictures of some of the products in my kit which I use extensively on red headed ladies.”

What foundation colours do you recommend?

• Donna. “Avoid pink or olive toned foundations. Olive won’t work obviously, and pinky undertones will simply make your skin look more pink! You want to camouflage the pink or red in your skin not add to it.

I have included a picture of two foundations from my kit. Believe it or not they are both the lightest in their categories, although the one looks darker, it is simply a different undertone.

Therefore – go for yellow/beige undertones to help neutralize any pink or red in the skin.

Should a red head wear bronzer if she is fair?

• Donna. “A red head needn’t be shy in wearing a bit of bronzer. Simply avoid very orange or very dark bronzey colours.

Take a look at this picture I have included. It is a soft, gold mineralized bronzer. It has more yellow than brassy orange in it, just perfect on a natural red head.”

What colour blusher can a red head use? Pink?

• Donna “I would avoid very bright pinks, or pinks with a lot of blue in it. Opt for peachy pinks instead or soft gold, shimmery pinks. Apricots and corals also look great on red headed maidens- once again just don’t wear colours that will add to the red in your skin. Anything red or blue/pink is a no-no!”

“Not sure if you will be able to see the exact colours very well in the picture, but check out MACS colours in ‘Cheek’, ‘Margin’ or Springsheen’ or BOBBI BROWNS cream rouge in ‘Coral’.

What lipsticks can red heads like Miranda wear?

• Donna. “No bright pinks, or purpley/frosty pinks please! Try golds, corals, yellow/pinks, or peachy colours.”

“Take a look at the picture. On the right is a palette of no-no colours that will clash with a red heads colouring and with her hair! On the left hand side though, is a palette of super colours that look just great on red heads!

What about eye-brows? Should she fill these in or just leave them?

• Donna. “Eye brows are super important so definitely fill them in! Due to the fair skin of many red heads though – be careful not to darken them too much. I suggest going for the lightest brown and using a small wedge/angle shaped brush. Sometimes you just need to fill in the ‘gaps’ so that no skin is visible and to eliminate ‘patchy’ eyebrows. So colour them in and shape them with a very light eye shadow for the most natural look.

I just love ‘omega’ from MAC which I have taken a picture of for you guys. You can see that it is well used! I use it in just about everybody actually!”

• In terms of eye shadows Donna, what do you recommend?

• Donna. “Take a squiz at the picture below”

“These are all soft champagnes, peachy pinks, golds, bronzes and warm browns .Matte or shimmer – it’s your choice!”

Any further advice Donna?

• Donna. “I could go on forever – but I just want to say that red heads can look truly beautiful with the right makeup application. Key things to remember are:”

1. “Don’t use colours that add to any red in the skin. Use colours that neutralize redness instead. If you have very red skin, try a green tinted primer underneath your foundation like this one from SMASHBOX.

2. “Don’t hide your freckles! They are beautiful and make you an individual! Besides – if you do pluck on the foundation to make them ‘go away’ it will just make the freckled area look grey!”

3. “Play up your best features – redheads often have beautiful eyes so make them stand out with beautiful smoky bronzes and golds”

4. “Wear your red hair with pride!”
