Creating Candy Hairstyle Curls Using ghd

I had the opportunity last week to have a one on one hairstyle lesson with Debi Schurr ,the National Technician and Educator of ghd Hair. I had such a fabulous time and learnt so much! Even though I am a hair stylist myself who is obssessed with ghd, I learnt so many new techniques I had no idea how to do. And the best thing of all, Debi taught me how to acheive those fashion curls on myself. So I did a whole head of curls on myself and it lasted the whole day.

The best advice I received is when using your ghd styler, its not only about the tool you use when achieving your hairstyle but its about the products you use to help create your look and help protect your hair. I was completely amazed that  I had 4 layers of ghd product in my hair and it felt like I had nothing at all. My hair looked healthy, shiny and completely soft. ( And I have bleached blonde hair that is completely damaged which I am not proud of.)

This is what Debi had to say about what ghd stands for:

” We all know ghd stands for GOOD HAIR DAY…Well I say.. GOTTA HAVE IT DARLING!!”

I was shown all the different types of curls you can acheive with your ghd styler which is amazing!

Every week, I will be sharing a different technique from ghd and information on each of the products.

Below is the the first look on how to create the Candy Curl.

To prepare the hair:

1. Use a ghd thermodynamics shampoo and conditioner for your hair type

2. Towel dry the hair and apply the ghd thermal protector spray for your hair type

3. Apply ghd obedience cream to fine hair or ghd smoothing balm to thicker coarser hair – this will smooth the hair and give a bit more support before blow drying.

Styling:

Step 1

Section the hair into small neat horizontal layers or sections spraying a fine mist of creation spray onto each section as you work and work the product in to the hair with fingers or a comb. Starting in the nape of the neck, smooth the root area of each section with your ghd IV styler before creating the curl.

Step 2

To create a Candy Curl, wrap a strand of hair around one or two fingers, depending on how tight you want the curl, starting at the root and wrapping it around the finger(s) until you reach the end of the strand. Do not worry to keep the end curled in if it does not stay.

Step 3

Slip curl off the finger and you can either: clip in place with grip and repeat this process with each section of the entire head or follow step 4 below as you create each curl, whichever you find easier for you.

Step 4

Heat and press each curl with a ghd IV styler and repeat this process throughout the entire head.

Step 5

Remove clips and style. For a more dramatic catwalk look you can rouge the curls by holding each strand at the ends and gently pushing the hair towards the root. The more you rouge the more dramatic the look. REMEMBER that this will NOT damage your hair as you are using your fingers!

Dressing & finishing:

Spray liberally with ghd reflection spray to smooth static and give a final shine. For extra hold use ghd ultimate hairspray to set the look.
