Cracked Lips Beauty Tips

Hello winter, I do love you however my lips don’t.

The change of climate going into winter always causes my lips to become chapped dry, dehydrated and flakey and how is one meant to cuddle down with lips like these. The worst thing you can do for winter lips is to constantly apply a non medicated lip balm especially ones that are petroleum based as all it does is act as a barrier for your lips and the harsh climate which will cause you to have to reapply to your lips every 5 minutes further causing more pain and discomfort by not healing your lips. Constantly licking your lips will further dry them out as saliva contains numerous enzymes, collectively acting similar to a salt leaving your lips dehydrated. Licking your lips strips your lips of their natural oils leaving them exposed to the harsh elements unprotected.

If your lips are dry and chapped exfoliate them as you would the rest of your skin. My favourite ways to do this is by softly brushing my wet lips with my toothbrush or by gently rubbing my wet lips with a soft towel. Once exfoliated use a medicated lip balm with a SPF like DCT, Carmex lip balm or the queen of lip balms Elizabeth Ardens 8 hour lip balm. If you would like to go a more natural route eucalyptus is an exceptional hydrator and applying it to your lips will help heal and moisturise your lips. These methods will have your lips feeling silky smooth in no time at all ready to kiss away those winter blues.
