Boxed In! Hair Tips on DIY Hair Dye

A few hair tips on DIY hair dye.

Tip No. 1:
When selecting at-home hair colour, never go more than two shades lighter or darker than your current tone.

Tip No. 2:
Semi-permanent hair colour is a great option for colour commitment-phobes. You can’t “lift” colour with semi-permanent colours so your hair will change shades.

Tip 3 No. 3:
Grab an old T-shirt, a comb and an old towel, and set up a “station” that is not carpeted, so that If you mess, it isn’t a train smash.

Tip No. 4:
Use some Vaseline petroleum jelly around your hairline. This acts as a barrier to keep the dye off your skin. Make sure you don’t get any Vaseline on your hair as those strands wont dye.

Tip No. 5:
It is advised to apply hair colour to unwashed hair. The natural oils act as a buffer to the product. And, don’t worry; colour is strong enough to penetrate through hairstyling products. No problem!

Tip No. 6:
Colouring thick and/or long hair can be time consuming. Try not to get frustrated and skip strands. Ask a friend for help or divide your hair into sections.

Tip No. 7:
Follow the instructions. Leave the colour on for the amount of time advised.

Dyeing hair at home is a fun experience! Ladies with dark hair, try NOT experiment highlights or becoming blonde! Take my word for it. It may be a “thrill”, but you won’t come out like the lush blonde on the box. You will look like a carrot! Believe me on this one. I have tried and tested it. It was by far one of the most embarrassing shades I have been!
