We at Beauty Bulletin were given utter royal treatment with the privilege of interviewing Katy Perry’s personal makeup artist- Todd Delano . We asked him a few juicy questions on what it is like being a Killer Queens makeup artist and how he meets her royal expectations.
Before we grace you with this interview, let’s talk a little bit about Todd Delano’s claim to royalty. It all began when he worked at a makeup counter where Katy Perry would have her makeup done before she was famous. He did her makeup and built a professional relationship with her a month before “I Kissed A Girl” hit the airwaves. When this song put her on the billboards, Katy in true elegance remained loyal to Delano and asked him to quit his job and become her personal makeup artist.

1.Katy Perry has had pink, blue, purple and now black hair promoting her Killer Queen Fragrance. Do the rules of makeup change drastically to suit her ever-changing hairdo’s?
Answer: On the most part the makeup doesn’t change that drastically with hair color. Except maybe adjusting the brows to be a bit lighter when filled in.
2.What is your favourite makeup look to do on Katy Perry?
Answer: I like her fresh faced with glowing skin and a soft smoky eye really makes her blue eyes pop.
3.How stressful can it be if Katy Perry shows up royally late and you have limited time to get her makeup done?
Answer: N/A
4.What is an important makeup trick that you can share with us so we can all flaunt a flawless Killer Queen look?
Answer: Hydrate your skin and find the perfect match to your foundation so it blends seamlessly. Apply a couple shades on jawline to the neck and pick which one disappears into your skin. I apply with a brush .
5.How would you describe Katy Perry’s signature look?
Answer: She’s been leaning towards a more refined fresh look. Dewy skin, perfect brows, full lashes, and a statement lip.
6.What three products are must-haves to get Katy Perry’s signature look?
Answer: Great mascara, brow pencil or powder, bold or bright lip
7.Katy Perry looks like a Killer Queen wherever she goes. On average, how long does it take to do her makeup?
Answer: 45 – 1 hour
8.Which facial features do you focus on when doing Katy Perry’s makeup?
Answer: Her eyes! From the brows to the bottom lashes.
9.Katy Perry could certainly have given Marie Antoinette a run for her luxuries with her perfect porcelain skin. Can you tell us her beauty regime for her flawless skin?
Answer: She eats well, tries to sleep at least 8 hours, takes her vitamins, exercises, and never sleeps in her makeup.
10.How do you achieve Katy Perry’s beautifully arched brows?
Answer: Comb the hairs up and out with brow brush and fill in where needed with a pencil or powder, usually one shade lighter then hair. I like to start on the tail of the brow and work in. The front of the brow should be slightly more diffused to keep it natural looking .Then I set with clear mascara.
11.Do you have any advice for when applying Katy Perry’s false lashes?
Answer: Measure to your eye and make sure they don’t go past your own lashes or this will give a droopy effect. Always trim the lash from the outer corner. Next apply a thin bead of glue and let set for 20-30 seconds to get tacky. Then with fingers or tweezers place the lash as close as possible to your lash line and squeeze the two together. Apply mascara to mold them together. Practice makes perfect.
12.A Killer Queen always knows her next step towards ruling. What can we expect with Katy Perry’s look in the near future?
Answer: A Queen is full of surprises. You’ll have to wait and see
