Awapuhi Ginger Hair Care

In the bleak midwinter, a little summer sunshine break is balm for the soul ! I was lucky enough to travel to London and Barcelona, and the lovely girls at BB let me try the new Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger range. Something lovely and tropical-sounding for my sunny sojourn…

Awapuhi is a wild ginger, grown in Hawaii. In 1983, Paul Mitchell and John Paul DeJoria purchased land in Hawaii that would become a sustainable, solar-powered Awapuhi Farm. The two friends and business partners wanted to pursue a lifestyle that was connected to nature and in tune with their beliefs. To this day, all of the Awapuhi used in John Paul Mitchell Systems products is harvested here.

A little-known secret: Anyone can visit or stay at the Awapuhi Farm for a unique off-the-grid retreat. How fab ?

The range comprises 10 products, including professional keratin treatments and several styling aids. Designed to restore dry, damaged hair, the formulae enriched with KeraTriplex™ are sulphate-free, colour-safe and protect hair from modern styling.

So just why is Keratin so important ? Daily stress can damage hair from the cuticle to the cortex. Keratin fibres within the cortex are joined by peptide bonds. When those bonds are broken, hair becomes fragile and weak.

KeraTriplex™ is a blend of three proteins with targeted molecular weights that penetrate into the cortex, rebuild disrupted bonds and reinforce the cuticle.

Hair is healthier-looking and instantly restored. A long-lasting sacrificial shield smoothes the cuticle and protects it from further damage.

I tried the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moisturizing Lather Shampoo, Keratin Cream Rinse and Keratin Intensive Treatment. Wonderfully fragrant, the Moisture Lather shampoo lathered beautifully, even in London’s hard water, and left my hair feeling silky and clean. The Keratin Cream rinse sorted out my tangles, but the Intensive Treatment was the piece de resistance – just what the doctor ordered for my long, fine, highlighted and tangle-prone hair. The rich formula was super-slippery in the shower, enabling me to comb it through with little effort and no breakage.

After drying, my hair was shiny and sleek. It is dead straight to begin with, but a friend with curly hair also used the shampoo on holiday and pronounced her curls more manageable after using the Shampoo and Cream Rinse.

I’m a fan !

Salon treatments with the KeraTriplex™ Treatment are specifically recommended for badly-damaged hair. Paul Mitchell hair care is available at selected salons country-wide.
