Are Professional Products Better for your Hair than Cheaper Ones?

There are hundreds of hair products on the market. Some of them promise you a salon look when you use them, while others just simply tell you- it’s a shampoo that’ll clean your hair. There‘s a huge difference in prices when it comes to hair products and mortal beings like you and me are left wondering – ‘’is there a difference?’’

The short answer to this question is YES. The cheaper no-name products do not usually contain the same technologically advanced formulas that expensive salon products have. Therefore, the results will be different. HOWEVER, it is important to note that this is not the case for all products.

Shampoo and conditioner are the basics when it comes to hair care products. They clean and condition your hair and usually the cheaper versions can do as good a job as their more expensive counter parts. With this in mind, the next question to your mind should be: ‘’what kind of results do I want from my hair products?’’

The cheaper products usually have a less concentrated amount of ingredients that will produce the desired results. This is why they’re cheaper. So, a store bought anti-dandruff shampoo will contain smaller amounts of a key ingredient as compared to the more expensive alternative. This is why it’s less likely to be as effective as its professional counterpart. So, if you have a serious dandruff problem, it may be safe to say that you should opt for the more expensive brands.

The more expensive brands, contain enough key ingredients to give you the results you want from your hair products. Obviously each brand has its own unique formulations and so, while one brand may not be very good for you, another may be just perfect.

According to Philip Kingsley (the Hair Doctor) the ingredients on the bottle should be one of the most important aspects of whether or not a product would be perfect for your hair. That said, a lot of the cheaper brands do not always label the key ingredients or key benefits of their products, but the premium brands do. So, if you’re concerned about what you’re putting into your hair and want the best, the more expensive options may be more appealing to you.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours as to whether you’re going to buy a more expensive product, or a cheaper version. You may prefer more expensive and professional products simply because of the prestige that comes with them, or you may want simple products that keep your hair clean and healthy.

As mentioned before, professional products are more expensive, but you can try this L’Oreal Professional Absolut Repair for damaged hair that costs about R125.
