Van Cleef and Arpels is a French brand popularly known for their jewellery, watches and fragrances. It was established in 1896 by Salomon Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef. Despite its French roots, today Van Cleef and Arpels is owned by the South African Rupert family. The brand started off by making jewellery using precious stones and then began to make watches.

The first Van Cleef and Arpels fragrance was released in 1978. It was a women’s fragrance called First for Women. It was to be the fragrance that inspired other fragrances from the brand as well as influence fragrances from other brands over the years. Men and women fragrances as well as unisex fragrances have been made available under the Van Cleef and Arpels label.

In 2009, Van Cleef and Arpels Fragrances released 6 luxury fragrances called Collection Extraordinaire. This collection includes Bois d’Iris, Gardenia Patele, Lys Carmin and the unisex Cologne Noire among others.
