Serum – Serum has multiple uses. It is primarily used to give your hair a radiant shine and to prevent your hair from tangling and knotting. Serum is also used to prevent frizzing and to keep your hair smooth after a blow out. It is great for dry and damaged hair for shine and strength. This product should be used sparingly, as it easily builds up. It can only be removed by shampooing it out.

Mousse
– Unfortunately this type of mousse is inedible. Hair mousse comes in a pressurized metal can. When the product is released from the nozzle it expands into a large mass of foam. This light weight product has a variety of uses and can be used on most hair types (except dry hair). You can find mousse to enhance your curls and some variants can create volume in flat hair. There are also variants of mousse to protect your hair against heat damage.

Pomade – This product is used to sculpt hairstyles. Although it is best suited to short hair it can also be used to create finger waves on long hair. While in the container, pomade has a greasy and waxy feel. It creates an intense shine when used. You need to use a shampoo that contains sulphates in order to wash this product out of your hair or you it will take several washes to remove.

Hair wax – Hair wax is very similar to pomade and can also be used to create sculpted hairstyles. It is not as shiny as pomade.

Hair gel – Hair gel is used to stiffen and sculpt hair into a style. It works well to create curls or even sleek and straight hair styles. Gel comes in different strength, from a light hold to a strong hold. There is even a wet look variant to give the appearance of wet hair. This product is great for short hair, and is popular amongst young males.

Oils – Different types of oil can be used to nourish your hair and lock in moisture. You can mix your own oils or purchase pre-mixed oil products from a beauty store or salon. Oils can be used before or after blow drying your hair for a sleek finish or as a pre-shampoo or overnight treatment. Use oil on dry or long hair.

Dry shampoo – Dry shampoo powder in a pressurized spray can. It is used to clean your hair when you’re unable to wash it. It removes oiliness, dirt and sweat, making it perfect to freshen your hair after a workout. Some dry shampoos are also scented. If you dye your hair, dry shampoo can help your hair colour last longer as you won’t wash your hair as frequently. It’s also great for oily hair or if you have a fringe.
