What is The Difference between a Signature Scent, a Celebrity Scent and a Designer Scent?

Different fragrances, different compositions, different scents, same confusion! Are you still feeling a bit lost in the world of fragrances? Let me help you find your way in deciphering the difference between a signature scent, a celebrity scent and a designer scent:

Signature scent:
A signature scent is a scent by which someone is recognised. It captures the total essence of the person wearing it and, just like fashion, is a way of showing your personality. When selecting your signature scent, you should think carefully about whom you are and what aspects of your personality you would like to put forward. You should never make a decision based on fragrance notes or ingredients. The emotion and what you personally feel when you wear a particular scent is what makes it signature.

Celebrity scent:
Celebrity scents are generated by media personalities rather than fragrance houses. These types of scents are used by celebrities as self-promotion to associate their name with a signature scent. This association is usually the selling point and has become a key factor in the success of many fragrances. This is why you would find that many fragrance houses are so keen on celebrity endorsements. It not only promotes the celebrity, but the brand.

Examples of celebrity scents would be:

Heat by Beyonce

Halle by Halle Berry

Designer scent:
Designer scents are created by and linked to fashion houses or designers. They are released by large fashion brands in large quantities and very broad distribution. These types of scents are are usually made with higher quality ingredients and tend to be more expensive. Designer fragrances stay relevant and keep prominent in the overly saturated fragrance market. They do, however, lack exclusivity due to their huge popularity.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what scent type it is, how popular it may be or how expensive it’s going for. It’s all about what works for you.

I hope this article cleared up any confusion and broadened your knowledge on the complexity of fragrances.
