Mainly because the bar is black, and I've never really come across a black soap bar. However the reason behind the black bar is that the bar as bits of charcoal which is meant to purify skin leaving it blemish and trouble free. I never really used this product as a face soap but rather a body soap. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and smelling really great.
