CAKEY FOUNDATION?? WHAT TO AVOID

0
Get up in the morning and start you daily makeup routine.
All looks fabulous until 2 o' clock in the afternoon and you have cakey and missing spots of foundation on your face..

These are simple steps to follow to avoid that terrible cake face:

FOUNDATION MISTAKE #1: USING A POWDER FOUNDATION

If you're light on foundation (don't need major coverage) then a powder foundation or mineral powder could work. However powders tend to dry out the skin and if you have oily skin it could cake, get stodgy and set in the creases/ wrinkles of your face.. Not a good look!
A really good brand of liquid foundation is worth the splurge!

FOUNDATION MISTAKE #2: NOT USING PRIMER UNDERNEATH YOUR FOUNDATION

Ok so primers can be rather expensive but this is your face after all rather spend the money on good products and primers to keep your makeup in place rather that looking like some lady of the night the next morning.
Primers give your skin a smooth silky feeling, making the foundation easier to apply with a smooth finish. They also diminish the appearance of large pores and gives a more matte look controlling oily skin (oily skin is the #1 reason for makeup caking and not staying in place)

FOUNDATION MISTAKE #3: APPLYING YOUR FOUNDATION WITH YOUR FINGERS OR A SPONGE

Soooo this one caught me off guard, I figured what difference can my finger be to brush, I can control everything with my fingers. I was so wrong.
It's in fact vital to get a good foundation brush for proper application of foundation.
Brushes provide a smoother, more natural, less cakey application and controls how much or rather how much less foundation you apply.
NB - make sure it's synthetic, not animal hair.

FOUNDATION MISTAKE #4: PUTTING CONCEALER UNDER, NOT OVER, YOUR FOUNDATION

I've certainly done this one before, but better learning late than never!
REMEMBER - foundation first, then concealer. Dab on some concealer only on the ares you need coverage and blend in.

FOUNDATION MISTAKE #7: SETTING YOUR FOUNDATION WITH TINTED POWDER AND A BIG, FLUFFY BRUSH

Doesn't it remind you of those golden oldie movies where ladies always powdered their faces with a huge powder brush; POOF! and somehow it was perfect... Well yeah only in the movies!
To give your make up a matte finish and control oil also aid in "setting" your makeup, apply a fair amount, not a huge poof, of TRANSLUCENT powder, this naturally blends into your color foundation so it doesn't matter if you have a darker skin tone.

TIPS TO REMEMBER:

*Makeup setting spray goes a long way to help set your makeup and foundation
However NEVER use hairspray, I've seen this before, DO NOT DO IT it's simply not any good for your skin.

*If you feel your skin is getting oily, lightly dab your face your face with some tissue paper

*Good quality makeup is an investment to your skin, yes they can be expensive but your skin is forever

Here's to future awesome makeup days!!

So very true .I never go without my primer and also make sure to get rid of dead skin cells by exfoliating once a week because dead skin cells can also make foundation look cakey. The best way to ensure foundation looks flawless though Is to make sure to take care of your skin .

Wait for the foundation to set by giving it a few minutes before applying the powder;)

    Thank you ladies.

Also try and avoid touching your face a lot, this can make your skin oily quicker
