Dyeing relaxed African hair

Hey ladies,

I need advice on applying semi-permanent colour to relaxed African/ ethnic hair.

I've been debating this choice for the last two months and my fears remain intact. Relaxed hair is prone to breaking and drying out and I've read that dyes aggravate the condition, so i want to find out if anyone knows which brand is best to use to avoid 'aggravating the condition'?

Colour suggestions are also welcome!

Thanks,

V

good morning n sorry for taking long to respond i could not find this post, how do i get it or notification beside via email.

I use Inecto dye and my hair dresser took me of Darknlovely coz it can be hush on hair since it relaxers your hair from the second it's applied/touch your hair (notice how they hardly comb your hair wen relaxing, they just massage on it), plus dye its a disaster.

now im using Ladine (i don't know of Mizani, but Organic olive oil and Ladine are good products), but please also ask at your salon if the relaxer you want to use will work with the dye that you want.

keep your hair moisturized (it doesn't have to be oily and shinny) if your hair is dry with dye it breaks easily and go for treatment after two or three weeks of relaxing.

hi i normally dye and relax my hair the same time at the salon, semi permanent is alway good for hair, unlike permanent. trick can be the color of your dye, you blond/ caramel and so rarely have a semi permanent.

when i DIY, i dye my hair 2 weeks after relaxing.
it is always advisable to check if your dye goes with the relaxer you use.

always go for dyes with no or less metal in it.

I use Mizani - though it is very expensive but worth it all the way.
Most times we don't invest properly in our hair, yet we purchase very expensive hair extensions. Rather put that investment on your own hair!

Get to a reputable salon and let them assess if your hair is healthy enough to go through a colouring process because if it starts shedding, it will costs you more money, stress and time to get it back to its healthy state.

I used to use Ladine, Dark n lovely, Organic treatments but to be honest Mizani, Moroccan oil are the most high end (super quality) in comparison to those if you are willing to pay. My hair is so healthy and most people think it's an extension.

    Thanks for replying Lindsay!

Do you mind telling me which brand dye you use?

I'm a DarknLovely girl in terms of relaxer, though I'm thinking of switching to Mizani.

    Hey Madibo,

Thanks for the reply! I noticed on your profile that you are also a Pretoria lady. Would you mind suggesting a hair salon for me, where the stylists actually know about relaxed hair care? I reside in Pretoria East, but I'm not originally from Pta so my knowledge on salons here is limited.

    Would appreciate the help.

    Thanks,

    V
