Stila was the first, or one of the front-runners, to bring out liquid lippies and start this craze.
I scored a great deal from a third-party seller and got a beautiful holiday gift set, which was not available in SA. While this set was not available here, the Stila liquid lipsticks are available at most Stila counters in SA.
The set, called Eternal Love, comes with three deluxe-sized samples. I appreciated this because a full size tube is ssssspensive. The set has three shades: Baci, Beso, Ricco (they sound like three Italian brothers).
The tube is half the size of the regular liquid lippie with a doe-foot applicator with flexible head. The applicators are flattened on both ends, which work great for applying lipstick evenly on the lips. The straight, flat tip of applicator allows you to define the lip line. Applying liquid lippes is an art, I swear there should be a course: Liquid lippies 101.
I prefer to take calculated risks, so I line my lips and colour them in with the lippie making sure to stay between the lines. Preschool all over again!
Beso is from Stila's permanent Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick line. However Baci and Ricco are brand new shades that will become permanent with the Spring 2016 launch in the US. I hope we get it South Africa. So far, Stila SA has brought in their ranges to Mzansi, so there is hope.
The formula of the Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick is creamy and opaque, which I wasn't expecting because it's not super thick. It's lightweight and applies very smoothly and evenly.
I am an NC40 in MAC and I have 50 shades of pink and purple lips or reference.
Beso is a permanent shade and a bestseller in the Stila Stay All Day® range. It is a vibrant, true red, with a hint of orange that will flatter any skin tone.
Baci is a mauve rose with a grey undertone. It is a pinky nude, which I'm not a fan off. I prefer nudes that lean more brown. I can pull off this shade but I personally do not find it flattering on me (my hubby thinks otherwise). For reference, I am an NC40 in MAC and my lips are 50 shades of pink and purple. I think this shade will suit women are lighter than me.
Ricco looks like a wine shade in the tube and it is a rich, deep shade that when applied looks chocolate brown, which is a hot lipstick trend right now. Ordinarily, I would not wear such a deep, vampy colour, but it looks pretty good, paired with a neutral metallic eye.
This lipstick doesn't bleed or transfer. It sets like concrete and lasts a long time. I didn't notice any flaking or crumbling. Stila does say that these lippies have vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick hydrates and softens lips so they look and feel beautiful. They do not hydrate the lips. As with lipsticks that are matte and long lasting, they will dry out our lips. However, they do fade but in a pretty way.
These lipsticks are free of pararbens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs and triclosan i.e. the nasty stuff.
I would like to try Patina, a shade that is said to be universally flattering so naturally, it's always sold out.
These are not sssshhheeep, so if you do want to try one, go in store and try it on, do a wear test and get it if you like it.
Word of caution, if you do like your morning coffee and your caffeine high gives you the jitters, skip this, because if you make a mistake when you apply it, it stays all day too!
