Smokin' NOT! L'Oreal Colour Riche eyeshadow quad

Smokin' NOT! L'Oreal Colour Riche eyeshadow quad

I’m obsessed with rose gold . . . and while my budget won’t allow me to that Michael Kors watch I’ve been eyeing, I found rosy eye shadow.

I picked up the L’Oreal Color Riche quad in Smoky Eau de Rose at Dischem and the shimmering feminine warmth of the colours got me into a floral mood.

There four shades are well out together. There’s a light pink, a peachy pink, a lilac pink and a beautiful burgundy.

The arrangement of the colours are done such to mimic the different parts of the eye and where you would use the eye shadows, which I think is very cool.

There’s also an interesting diagram at the back showing you how to create a smokey eye.

The colours can be worn alone for a simple wash of colour on the eye or combined to create dramatic smokey eyes and even a cut-crease eye look.

When swatched the colours are pigmented and have a shimmer, a beautiful metallic sheen. When I rubbed it between my fingers to get a feel of the texture, it wasn’t gritty nor was they finely milled. They were decent and standard.

But, the worst was still to come.

After swatching, the shadows, I looked down at the pan and my heart sank like the Titanic. The eye shadow was all over the palette, with some of the colours running into the other.  As if the fallout wasn’t enough, the shimmer was clearly was just on the surface because it had disappeared leaving a solid matt colour and the lighter shades look chalky. I was disappointed, I felt like I was looking a fancy cake on display at a bakery only to find that it just looked good and the fondant was covering a cardboard box.

On the up side, the applicator included is double ended with the usual oval-shaped foam applicator on one end, and an angled foam applicator on the other – perfect to create any kind of look. - If only the eye shadows could perform.
